Last year had a .282 OBP, 11 HR, 46 RBI, good for an OPS+ of 93. Like Voit has been a negative defender last few years.

Would guess he is an option to be a stop gap until the young guys come up

Naquin's slash-line against RHP in 2021: .283/.339/.514. I'd take that in a heartbeat. But he should never see an at-bat against a LHP at this point.

Agreed, we're likely looking at Naquin/Taylor platoon in RF.

Full Name: Tyler Wesley Naquin

Nicknames: Billy

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Another interesting guy, giving competition for the rookies. There's always the risk that bringing in a guy like Naquin would hamper development of the young guys by not allowing consistent MLB level at bats. It's a minor league deal so hardly locked into anything. But definitely something to keep an eye on, would be quite annoying to watch Naquin hit 250/260 while Weimer/Frelick sit in AAA until June.

Another great little risk signing. I am sure these offers have been out to Naquin and Voit for a while and ultimately they could not find guaranteed major league contracts.

Maybe Stearns was the weakest link in the front office.

Can we please change the name of the thread to get the guy's name right too? Thanks :)

I like the move has to be an upgrade over Perkins. A vet in Nashville when one of the youngsters come up to the show

It will be interesting too see if he or Voit don’t make the opening day roster if they ever see Nashville. Have to think each has an early opt out.

All these depth signings have me extremely excited for another Title run down in Nashville. The Taxi Squad is going to be filled with guys jonesing for opportunities with the Big Club. I love the way Arnold is continuing to add competition - this is what we 'should' be rooting for given obvious budget constraints.

Yeah I doubt either one ever plays in Nashville.

A bit off baseball topic, but the name Naquin is pronounced (Nah-can) in the deep south.  I have heard it pronounced (Nay- Kwin) over the years by the media and announcers. I know he is from SE Texas and played college ball at Texas A&M, so I'm just guessing he might pronounce his last name as (Nah-can) too, but I'm not sure about that.

Sounds like TT wont be ready for start of season... Guessing almost a lock that Naquin is on OD now.

Maybe Naquin/Anderson platoon in RF until TT is back?

Yea that would be my guess

It seems like maybe they could do a sort of Naquin/Brosseau platoon where Anderson flips between 3b & RF depending if it is a righty or lefty starting

While we're off topic, something tells me you are familiar with that part of the country, or perhaps just East of there... Baton Rouge?
