Opening Day Roster

Gus Varland made the team too. I wonder who is out. Houser to IL is too temporary of a solution to keeping Varland all season.

There will be other guys they can play option games with if it comes to that. Also it is likely that someone else will go on the IL the first month of the season. Finally, just because Varland made the team doesn't mean he is a sure bet to stay all season. He's a live arm that I'm sure they'd love to keep, but if he flames out, he either goes back to the Dodgers or they work out some sort of minor deal to keep him in the organization.

Probably Wilson or Payamps, I'd cut Wilson lose because we need more pen help in my opinion. Like someone said earlier, maybe Wilson or Payamps shoulder gets really tight and goes on the DL to start.

I feel like Turang making it makes it less likely that Wiemer makes it, unfortunately. Would have been fun seeing Mitchell, Turang, and Wiemer in the lineup everyday. This team doing well beyond 2024 is going to be dependent on these bats putting up a lot of runs...whereas currently it's moreso run prevention and winning low scoring games. Scoring a lot is certainly more fun to watch than grinding out low scoring wins

Turang I assume will be playing 2b most days. Urias will probably play all 3 infield spots and get priority on playing time over Anderson. I kinda expect Anderson won't start a ton, except maybe early on in RF. It would be pretty silly to include Turang on the roster and not have him playing almost everyday...and against both LH and RH pitching.

Perhaps getting Turang acclimated to the MLB level is a precursor to a Adames trade mid-season?  Or at least to give the team options.  Not that I want to trade Adames, but I doubt we get to keep him either...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Really happy for Turang.  Was drafted in 2018 and has spent 4 seasons in the minor leagues, including all year at AAA last year.  Time to see what this kid can do.

I doubt it would happen this summer after last year's Hader debacle but it sure would help get him acclimated to a starting role for next season. This is a bit of a transition season and the way the roster is filling out shows that IMHO. The roster is going to turn over in a major way next winter and it appears the team is getting the next group some experience so they're ready to hit the ground running next year. Just a guess on my part but I think we'll see several of our young guys go up and down throughout the year. They'll get enough time to get experience without losing a year of service time. It makes sense to have one or two make the opening day roster if viewed from that perspective.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

What do you think opening day order will be vs. Stromen, I am going Miller over Weimer at this point (switch Weimer for Anderson if Wiemer makes it)

1)LF Yeli 2)SS Adames 3)1B Rowdy 4) C Contreras 5) DH Winker 6) 3B Urias 7) CF Mitchell 8)RF Anderson 9) 2B Turang   Bush 8th inning, Strezlecki 7th

I'm glad to see the front office making offense somewhat of a priority but how are Voit, Tellez, Winker, and Yelich all going to coexist? I thought Winker was going to mainly DH with Yelich getting time there too. Voit and Tellez can only play 1B. Maybe this is just Arnold's way of constructing a roster because it is very un-Stearns like.

Definitely sacrificing versatility for more potential offense. They are either really banking on Yelich playing nearly 100% of the time in LF, or Winker is closer to game-ready on defense than most realize.

This is probably pretty darn close in my opinion. Anderson might hit 6 over Urias. They might bat Mitchell 9th as the whole 2nd leadoff hitter thing. The only way this could get shaken up a ton in my opinion is if they try and hit Mitchell leadoff. I don't think they will, and if they did it might be more or less what you have with Mitchell ahead of Yeli. We'll see. I like this lineup a lot better than last year, I feel like we have at least some realistic chance to have a plus hitter at every position except 3b(some a better chance than others of course).

i think Winker played some outfield in spring, there might be a plan for him to play in the field a bit more than they thought when those comments were initially made? Otherwise you're right it's kinda tough for those 4 guys to play 2/3 spots with them all being better against RHP. I would expect Winker to see close to zero at bats against lefties.

I like that there are bona fide major league players in the minors plus a Taylor return if some of the guys in the majors don't produce. Feel kind of bad for Miller but at the very least he will be called up during the eventual IL stints of Yelich/Winker/Voit.

If Adames gets a day off, I hope Turang slides over to SS & Urius plays 2nd … much better defensive alignment

I’m as concerned about Winker’s mediocre offense in Spring Training [I know it doesn’t count - but he’s not hit the ball hard or well] as much as I’m concerned about him playing defense [which I hope doesn’t happen with so many other options

I’m fine if he DH’s part-time until he begins to spank the ball again

Miller is going to fly a lot. We seem to have an obvious backup at basically every position on the roster currently, so i expect he'll be the first callup for short term injuries regardless of position. The only variable might be a Mitchell injury which might mean frelick. The biggest downside for Miller is most likely he'll fly to Milwaukee to sit on the bench almost all the time he's there.

Has anyone seen an “official” Brewers OD roster or have we simply deduced the final roster via adding & subtracting? I can’t find any post with the actual roster listed.

I’m quite sad that Miller may miss the OD roster … also would love to see Wiemer get a chance.

This should be a fun season - there will be lots of MLB-level talent in Nashville.

Opening day isn't until Thursday, so I doubt they'll release a finalized OD roster until sometime Wednesday at the earliest. I think most are just deducing based on reports of who has been told they are making the roster, and simple addition/subtraction. The team itself released two "hidden camera" type videos of both Turang and Varland being told they made the team this morning, so of the players left in camp, it comes down to Miller and Wiemer.

Turang is our backup SS isn't he? Who else are we entrusting SS to defensively behind Adames.

Anderson at 3b. Urias at 2b. Turang Brosseau bench bats.

Wiemer in the OF now I see.
