Hunter Greene on the mound for the Reds, today. Pirates roughed him up a little on Opening Day.

Not exactly going out on a limb.  That Reds offense is atrocious.

Bello is stable as jello; our offense says, “Hello!”

Today, Each Bosock going to hitting school as a fool; with Burnes, every student the hard way learns!

The Brewers hitters should have a pretty good day,

The Red Sox pitcher has a 16.88 ERA.

Bello has only started 1 game and got hit pretty hard in less than 3 innings, albeit with 5 K. Last years 11 start 2.94 FIP performance rookie season speaks to his vast talent and stuff. Hopefully it takes at least 1 more start before that talent shows itself again.

My only complaint about CC thus far is that he feels the need to take Contreras' bat out of the lineup completely every few days, as opposed to simply putting him at DH. That was only his main position last year for the Braves and where he started for the NL in the all-star game...

He's on pace to catch like 115 games. Giving him days off is totally fine.

Yasmani Grandal played in 153 games for us in 2019. Why? Because his bat was so valuable that we needed him in the lineup even when he wasn't catching.

CC is still going with the playbook he had for Narvaez, whose bat wasn't worth putting him in the lineup when he wasn't catching.

Contreras is much more like Grandal than Narvaez...

I see Reynolds is out on paternity leave.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Grandal was also on a 1-year deal where we didn't care about keeping him healthy long-term. Way different situation with a young catcher who we have 5 more years of control of.

Putting Contreras at DH against a RHP takes Winker out. He might see the difference in offense to be minimal to nonexistent and would rather give Contreras a real day off. Then he has Contreras on the bench to use as a PH if the opponent brings in a lefty reliever.

I’ll favor Counsell’s judgment on this one.

Also should add. Contreras has never caught more than 96 games in a season and that happened in 2019. He's on pace to smash that number this season. Giving him plenty of off-days is the right call.

I'm not talking about playing Contreras 150+ games. I'm talking about treating him a little differently than Narvaez and taking care that his bat is in the lineup on occasional days where he isn't catching, rather than always sitting him entirely.

A reason why CC should make more use of him at DH, particularly against LHP when Winker shouldn't be a consideration...

A LHP isn't pitching today so this really makes no sense.

He's played in 17 of our 21 games this season lol.

Started in 16, with only 1 game at DH. That ratio's not good enough over the course of the season.

No reason why Contreras shouldn't be an automatic start at DH against LHPs and even against some RHPs. Can still get the rest he needs from catching...

Today, we're facing a righty, yes, but Bello is the type of pitcher that Contreras typically feasts off of. If Winker were hot, I might agree, but he's not. And Winker also has an injury history which requires his fair share of days off.

Ok, but at that rate, he is taking almost 50 games off.

I'm fine with 25 even 30 off from catching,  but he needs to see more days at DH when not catching.

I'm fine with 25 or so,  but that is excessive.

Precisely. Right now, CC is giving him the Narvaez treatment when Contreras' bat is so much better...

I agree that he could be used at DH more. Yet, I am ok with early rest in April and May.

Surprised Burnes is pitching on regular rest. I thought he would be pushed back a start. When a pitcher asks to come out… I don’t care for what, it is best practice to give him a few extra days… Burnes especially and mostly.
