Ace against Ace ..
Willy not easy to replace ...
May the Lord show him grace ...
All said, we are still in first place ...
The whole division is off-pace ...
Line drives we need to lace ...
Blow up the Giants and leave no trace!
Let's be like Willy and have a smiley face! 🤠

from Bing AI:

-----------------

Verse 1: In the land of baseball, Where the Brewers and Giants play, Two pitchers take the mound, On this glorious day.
Chorus: Burnes and Webb, Their arms are strong, Their pitches fast, The game is on!
Verse 2: The crowd is cheering, The tension is high, Who will come out on top, Under the clear blue sky?
Chorus: Burnes and Webb, Their arms are strong, Their pitches fast, The game is on!
Bridge: The battle is fierce, The stakes are high, But in the end, Only one will fly.
Chorus: Burnes and Webb, Their arms are strong, Their pitches fast, The game is on!
Outro: So let’s raise our voices, And sing this song, For Burnes and Webb, The game is on!

Right now I'm concerned about the mental state of this team. Last night I harkened back to how poorly they played in the handful of games after the Hader trade. Yes, this is a very different situation. But the common thread is that something bad happened (or in the case of the trade something they perceived as bad). Compared to how bad it could've been, their hearts & minds should be relieved at his response in the hospital, that there were no breaks & that it sounds like he'll be released today (concussion IL).

Other than that, you wonder if this expedites Urias' return. I believe he's eligible Tuesday. Obviously Turang moves over in the interim. Backup? Brosseau has played SS four times in the bigs. Owen Miller once. Abraham Toro has never played there.

Andruw Monasterio was added to the 40-man and called up to replace Adames and he has experience playing SS.

That's a horrifying lineup to look at. Somehow they will probably put up like 5 runs against Webb though.

Thanks. I was scouring & didn't see anything. Yeah, Monasterio has played a lot of SS.

Well, we got Winker out of the #2 hole, anyway.

Out of a “get on base” position and into a power position. 🙄

I wanted to complain about it but this lineup is just really bad lol.

Winker - 66 wRC+ (54 wRC+ in May)

Tyrone - 32 wRC+ (all in May)

Turang - 62 wRC+ (66 wRC+ in May)

Caratini - 79 wRC+ (2 wRC+ in May)

Wiemer - 63 wRC+ (28 wRC+ in May)

None of those guys deserve to be hitting anywhere but the bottom third.

We've all seen examples over the years of Counsell digging in & sticking with a struggling veteran in the midst of ctiticism, so this shouldn't be surprising re Winker. But even the way the guy carries himself at the plate, the whole body-language thing......I watched him closely last night. At one point, a ball dribbled about 8-10 feet away to the opposite batters' box during his AB. He walks across the plate over to the ball, and swats it away with his bat like you would in a pickup game. How do you even do that if you're focused on the opposing pitcher & trying to get a good pitch to hit? Above & beyond his struggles, he's just looked.......really curious.

Monasterio looked like a pretty bad fielder at 2B in spring training.  And he’s not much of a hitter. Great addition

I wonder if he is hurting like he was all last season in Seattle with neck issues as I recall.

What addition should they have made?

Toro is worse defensively and has hit worse than Monasterio this year and Alvarez is in the middle of a huge slump.

I may be alone in this perspective, but I’m convinced …

The 2023 Brewers are the worst first place team in baseball history

I feel much like I did last year - they are so hard to watch

Injuries have cost them dearly - at every level (pitching, infield, outfield)

Underperformance has also been a factor - the DH has been atrocious

Very little to be excited about as we approach the 1/3 mark of the season (54 games)

I’m in favor of a complete tear down & rebuild

I would imagine he's here until Urias rejoins or Adames is ready, whichever comes first. Guys of his ilk are added all the time to rosters when there's a sudden IL stint.

I have Burnes on two fantasy teams.  I am benching him in both leagues, so he should put up some massive fantasy numbers today.

Once again, I'll take one for the team if it means a Brewers win!

Going to suck for you when Burnes pitches 9 innings of 1 run ball and we lose 1-0 lol

Burnes is a great thrower of the ball. He has electric stuff but he's just not currently a good pitcher. He's made zero adjustments to how he pitches in 3 seasons despite the results continuing to get worse. Last 145 IP he has a 95 ERA- and 96 FIP- despite having elite stuff for a SP.

Those numbers aren't going to get him the insane contract he is planning on getting.

We definitely need to infuse the team with speed/contact guys -- if there are any around that can play!  Waiting for homeruns to score isn't winning us what everybody wants to win!
