I need to hear from Counsell why Wilson wasn't available out of the pen tonight. I'm 99% sure we win the game if he pitches the 9th.

Wilson pitched 1.0 IP on Tuesday and 1.2 IP on Wednesday. So I can see having two off days for a reliever like that.

But this is a gut punch loss that should’ve been a win even with a patchwork bullpen. Wiemer’s misplay of the double in the 8th didn’t help, either.

Don’t know what even to do with Bush at this point other than DFA’ing him. Just been a non-positive factor after being acquired as a potential backup closer/setup man.

Not sure Strzelecki can come back up yet.

Put Bush back on the IL (before DFA-ing him) and Strz can come back up.

I mean yeah Bush is to blame for this loss, but if our offense wasn't so bad that our 4 highest leverage guys were unavailable because of overuse then Bush is never in there so this indirectly falls on the offense as well.

This is why I made my comment after last night’s game about “good game, good series, but….”.

Winning 3 out of 4 was nice, but using the bullpen so heavily to get there was going to be a problem unless Peralta was able to go seven innings, or hold the Pirates to no more than a run.

Now I am fearing one of those infamous PNC Park series where the Pirates suddenly become world beaters. The one last year set off the swoon that torpedoed the Brewers season. Bush was a key figure in that one.

it's largely on Bush. Not totally.

Two plays not made in the 7th & 8th.

Counsell deciding to pitch to a guy who was hot all night.

How about choosing to go to the precious 6-man rotation at this point, with no off days? Could've been Houser or Wilson in Pannones' spot starting the 6th. May not have made a difference. May have.

But mostly on Bush, sure.

This team just finds ways.  This isn't on Bush alone.

Its generally been the opposite, they find ways to hold onto one run leads.  They are bound to lose some close ones like this eventually.

In 10.1 innings this year Bush has given up 11 hits, 5 of which are home runs. How many times does CC need to use him before he gets it through his thick head that Bush is no longer a MLB pitcher.

If this was CC's test of the bullpen, everyone gets an F. You cannot throw away games just to "see what happens"! What happens is blowing winnable games. Absolutely BS.

The Brewers bullpen lost their 10th game tonight, fewest in the majors.

Entering the game Brewers relievers had the highest Win Probability Added in baseball.

CC’s bullpen usage has lead to the Brewers being the best team so far this season at not blowing winnable games.

But it’s a long season and guys can’t pitch every single game, sometimes they need a rest.

A lot has been made about the Brewers offense, and rightfully so.  But add two relievers who are upgrades to Bush and Pannone and the Brewers likely win this game with no changes to the offense.

100%. Our A bullpen could probably even use another day off, but our SP and offense are both unreliable and can't give them a night off. Freddy was spotted an early 4-0 lead tonight and couldn't even give us 6 innings.

That's the much bigger factor, not letting this turn into a malaise like the stretch starting with Oakland.

I mean they are in the midst of 17 games in a row with Miley fresh off the IL and Freddy pitching more than they probably would have wanted him to at the start of the year. They clearly felt their SP needed an extra day during a tough stretch.

Good teams that score 7 runs should win 99.9% of the time

This.  Going to a 6-man rotation during a long stretch with no off days when Miley has just returned and isn't up to 100 pitch outings yet.

This was the Brewers 1st loss scoring 7 or more runs this year.

Not quite 99.9%, but 16-1 comes in at 94.1%.

Here's CC's answer to my question. I'm not buying it. You pitch whoever of your top 5 relievers is in the best shape for one inning to get the win. That was Wilson in this case.

Seems clear though that Matt Bush is going to be DFA'd before tomorrow's game. Pannone probably getting sent back down, too.

Not ok with our what, our 12th best pitcher blowing this….our 13th best pitcher in high leverage in 7th and 8th. No other usual 7th or 8th guy could suck it up for an inning? Then give him 3 days off. Maddening.

This is very similar to what happened to Showalter in Philly. Guys were deemed not available, he went to the "B" team, and they lost it for him. The way CC worked this can be ripped but he's not out on some island where no other managers do the same thing, in the same circumstances. I was hoping for Wilson. He was deemed not available. The End.

I just think it was asinine pitching to Santana.

I a, just flabbergasted that bush pitched there.      That he’s even on the team.     Ridiculous

I actually think he should still be on the team in an obviously different role than tonight. He still throws hard, and has some positive experience too in MLB, unlike most of our pitchers,

No, he doesn't throw hard anymore. That's the problem.
