Miller got it, but it should've gone to Adames.

Not a great throw but a quality big league 1B easily makes the scoop for the out

That miscue proved quite costly

Milwaukee must play good defense & have great pitching or they will be near .500 by the trade deadline

This team has very little margin for error

Miller is a quality big league 1B (defensively). He just didn't make the play. Willy, a GG caliber SS, also didn't make a great throw.

Regardless of who should have been charged with the error, that was the easiest short hop a first baseman can get. Easier than fielding a ground ball. That flub opened the door for the inning.

Miller isn’t hitting anywhere near well enough for a first baseman who is a defensive liability.

Turang and Wiemer.

Not as much Wiemer because he's shown the power and the ability to hit it hard. Turang doesn't hit it hard, isn't walking, and is striking out a ton. The latter two are particularly concerning as those are things he did really well and was known for in the minors...

I understand advanced stats say Miller is an above average 1st baseman but he really doesn't look like one

The eye test has been around longer than advanced analytics

Trust your eyes - Miller is subpar at 1B

Again, Miller has been one of the best defensive 1B in the game the last two years in 800 innings. He's not a defensive liability. That's a fallacy that keeps getting repeated.

He should have caught the poor throw from Adames

On that play, he made an error that cost us a few runs

We have time to overcome his error, but it was costly

He may very well be a decent 1B statistically, but he doesn’t look the part more often than not

Rowdy Tellez is the one who's a defensive liability at 1B...

Tellez should be DFA’d … but he would have scooped the poor Adames throw & we would still be ahead in this game

Yeah. Because all you see is the missed scoop. But have you ever focused on his range and the balls he gets to and makes outs on that few other 1B would...That's why the "eye test" is deceiving sometimes, and what advanced stats help highlight. .

A good first baseman doesn’t miss as many plays as Miller has in his short time at 1B for the Brewers . Maybe the stats are inaccurate or misleading, or he has been much worse for the Brewers than he has been in the past.
