RHP Will Childers needs a bounce back start (6 ER in last outing) and Low-A Carolina welcomes 3B Luke Adams (.851 OPS in 356 PAs) back after a day off. The Mudcats need a win in Kannapolis to salvage a 3-3 series split.

Looks like it's Nick Bennett getting the start for Biloxi, piggyback situation?

If so, would be a little interesting in light of the debate over whether Mis should be used out of the major league bullpen.

High-A Wisconsin has had a rough week, trailing 4 games to 1 at Cedar Rapids. 21-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (3.90 ERA in 97 IP) starts today’s finale. 2B Mike Boeve has a 7-game hitting streak.

AA Biloxi strives to polish off a 5-1 series win at Mississippi, though with notable lineup absences. LHP Nick Bennett (4.77 ERA in 54.2 IP) gets the start. RF Carlos D. Rodriguez is having his best month (.843 OPS in 63 August PAs).

Carolina up 5-3 through seven with Chase Costello trying to work out of a runners on the corners, two out jam of Jeison Pena’s making.

Dylan O’Rae and Tayden Hall have a pair of singles each while Gregory Barrios has singled and doubled with Luis Castillo adding a solo shot.

Will Childers had a nice start with 1 R over 6 IP and 3 H | 1 BB | 3 K.

Rough series for the Carolina bullpen. Blew 6 and 4 run leads just off the top of my head.

Yeah, that’s a choke job, unfortunately. Led 5-1 late. Had more hits, walks, extra base hits… 10 LOB vs. 5 LOB.

No Misio in Biloxi today but Nick Bennett, Ryan Middendorf, Max Lazar, Noah Vennaro, and Russell Smith had a shutout through eight.

Cam Robinson’s ninth went fly out, double, walk, Zavier Warrrn error, before inducing a double play to seal the 2-1 victory for the Shuckers.

They would have had a no hitter, but Luke Waddell (any relation to Rube?) went 4-4.

Think Biloxi is just moving to a 6 man rotation to keep pitchers to just going once a week this late in the season.

Misiorowski has thrown 71 innings this year and only threw 78 last year.

Rodriguez threw 107 last year and is already at 100 this year.

Myers has peaked at 119 and is already at 109.

Mejias already has hit his career high in IP.

1B Keston Hiura returns to the AAA Nashville lineup after a rest day, having hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, LHP Eric Lauer makes his second start of the week at home against Charlotte. The Sounds need a win to clinch the series 4-2.

Padres are promoting Ethan Salas to AA. Absolutely crazy. He just turned 17 in June and has not fared well in A+. Crazy aggressive promotion to the point I’m seeing some actual prospect people question it.

.472 OPS in 37 A+ plate appearances. What in the world are the Padres doing?

A Double-A catcher would be more attractive to trade partners this offseason.

Black with a -33 LA grounder in his first AB. Through 35 batted balls in AAA he has a -0.7 LA. 22 batted balls with a negative LA. Really, really rough batted ball numbers for him in terms of velo and LA. Really has been struggling at the plate for a few weeks now even dating back to AA.

In positive news, Keston Hiura hit another HR!

I’m genuinely curious about average LA.
Are all balls in play play averaged for average LA?

That is, could someone hit three pop ups and and three grounders and have a great average launch angle?

I guess he’ll just keep mashing…

That is not the same Hiura as last year. I don't know what it means, if he'd come up and put up a 850 OPS for the Brewers, but that's a cleaner swing.

Yes which is why average LA is kind of noisy but it generally tells a pretty good picture. I prefer sweet spot % which is batted balls between 8 and 32 degrees because those are the most optimized launch angles. Black's sweet spot % is currently 13.9% after his double. Only 5 balls hit between 8 and 32 degrees of his 36 batted balls and he currently has a 66.7% GB rate.

Edit: For reference the lowest sweet spot % among qualified MLB hitters is 27.1% which is double what Black's sweet spot % is. It's a small sample and it's not indicative of Black going forward just shows how much he's been struggling in AAA.
