The odds are heavily against the Brewers facing the Phillies in a playoff series.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Brewers (should) be the 3 seed and Phillies will likely be the 4 seed. The only way they'd face each other would be in the nlcs

Oh well, you got 2/3, which you needed coming off the Cubs series. Nothing but mediocre to bottom feeder teams coming up the rest of the month heading into final series of the season. Division is the Brewers' for the taking.

Great series … another series win for Milwaukee

If we can continue winning 2 of 3 each series, we will win the division & end the season with 93 wins

That would be incredible for a team that has struggled offensively all year

My hope is that we clinch the Central BEFORE the Cubs come to town - allowing us to set up our pitching for the first round of the playoffs

That’s why I said that.

If the Brewers play the Phillies it would probably be in the wild card round if the Brewers lose the division and get the first or second wild card spot and the Phillies get the other one so they are the 4 and 5 seeds.. (To be clear, I am not predicting that or assuming it will happen).

Otherwise they would both have to win wild card series and knock off the Braves and Dodgers to meet in the NLCS. I wouldn’t bet on all of that happening.

Guess you can’t win them all. Had some scoring opportunities, but didn’t cash in.  Miley just couldn’t quite get through the Phillies lineup that last time. Possibly a win today had a full bullpen been available, but needed to burn those arms and got the first two wins, including a Colin Rea spot start. So kinda hard to seriously complain, even though a sweep would’ve been nice. Cincinnati splitting with Chicago also made it a decent weekend in the standings.

Or at the absolute minimum have the magic number down to one or two. There's zero excuse with the schedule we have coming up.

Except the Brewers have been playing to the level of their competition all season so that's not necessarily a good thing.

Yeah. We'll see. But there's zero excuse. If this team fails to win the division, which they are about an 80-85% bet to do right now, it will be entirely of their own making.

I don’t like to harp on negative stuff, but I’m surprised more people aren’t commenting on a pitifully coached game by Craig. Obviously his pitching/bullpen decisions were poor, but he may not wanted to use Bryse for more than an inning or so today after his long outing, maybe there are some other things we don’t know that changed the calculus. But any game where where Turang, Weimer, and Monasterio get a full games worth of at bats, And Frelick doesn’t bat is very poor especially when you need offense.   If he was sacrificing so many at bats today for those players due to the all defining splits, then he should have coached the pitching staff a hell of a lot more seriously. Crew can’t score on lefties, then you can’t have that 7th inning rookie coaching stuff. Standings often come down to 1 game sometimes at the end of the year, it’s almost like he was just forfeiting this one :(

I'm sorry we didn't sweep, but 4 games up ain't bad. And even if our bats are not scorching the world, they're not all that bad. C'est le baseball.

Well winnable game but Counsell mysterious trip to the bathroom cost them this one. Take the series though so it's good.

I attribute the loss much more to scoring only 2 runs. Trying to nurse a 2-1 lead through 3 innings with the bullpen at less than full strength is a very dangerous proposition.

Even with the bullpen at full strength the Phillies put up runs in the late innings the last two nights

Counsell does seem to sometimes when they have the series in hand not want to go for the jugular. This felt like one of those.

Yeah, that’s a good call, it does seem to happen more frequently in those types of circumstances.

I wouldn’t exactly count on Sal Frelick’s offense. His hitting seems to really have fallen off a cliff since his first few games. His OPS the past 7 games is 0.408. It’s in Wiemer territory.

One of the odd things about the buildup to that final series if things stay close is that, because of the tiebreaker situation, it will make no difference if the teams are tied, or if one team or the other has a 1 game lead. In any of those situations, whoever wins the series would win the division.

Brewers have to do whatever play whoever it takes to score 4 runs a game. With the pitching they are a lock if they do.

I wouldnt say "lock" but 4 is probably the minimum to win a playoff game against Atlanta or Philly.
