NL Wild Card Game 2 - Diamondbacks (Gallen) vs Brewers (Peralta): 10/4/23, 6:08pm

Salvatore Frelick has a 589 OPS vs lefties this season. Sure Craig, lets let him hit. Why not put in Monasterio who has a 780 OPS vs lefties

BUT SURE LETS LET THE GUY WHO COULDNT GET AN AB VS LEFTIES IN THE REGULAR SEASON HIT

That’s actually a fireable offense.    Like you can’t left Frelick bat there.

Counsell is gone so it really doesn't matter. You really should have said here is an extension with a bump in pay. If you are in sign if not we are going to move on.

The only option was Wiemer. Sure, it's a huge risk but he gives the best chance of a 100mph exit velo against a lefty.

When there are no good options, I default to a platoon advantage, but that's just me. Especially one without any real defensive downside.

I'm at peace with the outcome of this series because the DBacks sure look like the better baseball team. I also think this team may well need the big changes we all expect just because sometimes you need a change. Sometimes, things get stale. I am the weirdo who talks about how much I enjoyed watching the 2016 and 2017 Brewers, teams that didn't make the playoffs, but that had something compelling and were moving in an exciting direction. I'd love for the 2024 Brewers to be better version of that.

I’m just talking in general.  Like that move or lack of move is so unbelievably awful there’s no defending it.  I’m just a dick bag sitting on my couch and soon as a left comes in I call for a PH. It’s so easy of a decision.  As no brainer as they come.

You can't rationalize letting Frelick bat there especially considering his ongoing overall slump to end his year. Just as you can't rationalize not only rostering Winker but using him as the first PH bat when there is literally zero evidence all season long he can handle the duties. The decisions and the rationale are indefensible. They are failures. The ball does not lie.

Yep, my thinking exactly. Wiemer is a big risk for the K but if he makes contact, ball go far.

It wasn't the difference but I felt all along Mitchell should have been on the roster.

How would they make room for necessities like Jesse Winker and Brice Turang?

The offense sure stinks, but Craig has had a pretty miserable two games here as well. Not pinch hitting there was silly.

Agreed.

Am I wrong in thinking that, other than pitching Counsell made three moves on the offensive side: 1) PHing Winker twice and 2) PRing Weimer when they brought in a lefty to pitch to Sal.

When you type it out like that....yikes.

I do it in the show all the time on my couch and it works.

I can feel you on this. Not bad thoughts here whatsoever.

Its pretty disheartening that a hometown guy like Counsell is looking to bail on us.

He probably knows that a team like this has the system rigged against them and will never win a World Series unless they take advantage of a two year window like the 2015 Royals did before all their home grown talent goes off to play for the Yankees or Dodgers. And the system will only get worse.

Attanassio has taken this franchise as far as he possibly can but its really time for him to sell to someone with deeper pockets like Elon Musk who I'm sure would love to own this team.

Winker and wiemer being on the roster was a joke.

Wiemer is a great postseason roster guy at the end of a bench. He can play up the middle defense, he can run, and he has some useful offensive capabilities against LHP.
