Should The Brewers Trade Sal Frelick

38 members have voted

  1. 1. With the outfield surplus that the Brewers currently have, is it in their best interest to trade Sal Frelick to obtain an solid MLB-ready option at 1st base?

    • Yes, we need a first baseman
    • No, Sal is too amazing to trade away

Good thing there are 3 OF positions.  Sal has two other spots to play.  And he is an ideal lead off player.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I am sorry, since I am new I didn't make the edit to my post quickly enough for it to save. Below is a screenshot of Why Sal Frelick Should Be Traded image.png.bbd78622ce5f9fec3caa36355d0eab0c.png

Nope, no way. The lineup has been in desperate need of players who make contact, and we finally have one in Frelick. He is also a plus defender, and carries with him a set intangibles that separate him from average players. I think he'll be a .300 hitter in MLB sooner rather than later.

No way do I trade Frelick, but I'd trade Mitchell or Wiemer if the situation was right.

So many have been long clamoring for a shift in philosophy, getting away from so many all-or-nothing, low-contact bats in favor of guys who are going to put balls in play and get on base. And now that we have an exciting, uber-talented 23-year-old who does just that, we have posters advocating trading him away?

No. Just no.

Like many of the proposals to trade from depth, it always depends on what they'd be receiving in return.

I just looked at MLB Pipeline Top 100 from 2022. Frelick was listed at 70th. I see two corner infielders that are ranked below Frelick: Jose Miranda, and Miguel Vargas.

In a hypothetical trade where they traded Frelick straight up for one of these guys, how would I feel? I think I'd feel pretty good about it, actually. Which surprises me as I really really like Frelick.

No, I would build around Frelick not trade him.   I’m not worried about his rookie stats.  I think he showed good signs of being a sparkplug.  He’s going to set the table, get on base, and score runs.  We will really regret it if we trade him.

I wouldn't trade Sal. He is going to be a perfect leadoff hitter who can play plus defense at all three OF spots (gold glove in LF). Also he won't like cost crazy money to keep long term because he won't be hitting a lot of HR's. Weimer and Mitchell will have similar trade values and are more viotile to keep. I am hopeful we have LF Frelick batting 1, CF Chourio batting 2-3, and RF Weimer/Mitchell batting 3-5 for the next 10 years or so. I've said this since the Chourio signing. Our best path foward is trading Yeli.

Please don't trade sal. I like him as a player but more importantly so does my 10 year old and we just got him a frelick jersey for Christmas!
