When Yamamoto, Snell, and Montgomery sign the trade offers will get better and more serious. I am sure Arnold was busy setting lots of connections. It usually seems like January is our busiest month.

This. The Brewers will be all about bringing Burnes back - and to a degree that's legit. But in reality, they will move him if the offer is right. It's all about waiting for someone to blink and overpay. If it doesn't happen - so be it. We can wait until the trade deadline or even just take the pick. The latter is not ideal, but at least you get something. And it likely means we're doing well enough to contend.

My fear is Arnold is being unreasonable in his asking price for one year of Burnes. I’m not saying get whatever you can but if I see the Dodgers or any of these other rumored teams go out and trade for Glasnow and Cease and Burnes is still a Brewer come OD, I’m going to assume the asking price was unreasonable and the Brewers weren’t motivated to trade him, which would be a mistake.

Brewers General Manager Matt Arnold has reiterated several times that he is in no rush to trade Corbin Burnes, who becomes a free agent after the 2024 season.

But what do other teams believe? It's in the Brewers' interests to play coy with trading the ace starting pitcher, publicly stating that they're perfectly willing and happy to play out the 2024 campaign with Burnes fronting the rotation. According to Heyman, rival executives believe there's a decent chance the Brewers will trade Burnes before the season. It makes sense, not only from a return value perspective but if the Brewers don't trade Burnes before Opening Day, any team that trades for him no longer has the option to offer him a qualifying offer after the season; that pick would typically land in the 31-36 draft slot range. The allotment for the first such pick in 2023 was just over $2.7 million.

I love this Heyman tweet...

A "decent" chance. So what? 20% chance? Is that "decent,"? 50/50? Does "decent" mean "good" chance, like 75%?

I think I saw this linked in some other message board, but I just love it, considering how often we posters fight about a possible outcome because one of us used the phrase, "real possibility." As in, "The Cardinals have a real possibility of fighting back into contention."

Can maybe scratch the Dodgers off the list of possible suitors for Burnes?

One less suitor. More and more likely we keep him.

Just hope that Pepiot is dealt as he and Stone are two of the 2 SP prospects being suggested to get Burnes, I would hate getting back.

Doesn't 100pct end the idea of Burnes to LA. Isn't Yamamota signing what Ohtani leaves room for?  The Dodgers don't get him, Burnes (salary) and his innings ability on what would most definitely a win the WS go for it year makes sense as back up.

Is it possible the Dodgers offered a similar package for Burnes and Adames and Arnold thankfully said no? Or is Glasnow and Margot not really a fair comparison to Burnes and Adames?

If you put any credence into the BTV site, they're not very close in value:

A lot of that is due to Glasnow getting $25M this year compared to Burnes getting ~$15M and Adames being worth about $15M more than Margot as a player.

Glasnow has the ability to meet Burnes level for higher cost and about 50IP less consistency.  Burnes as commented has over 3 times his value.  But I could understand valuing Glasnow higher than the BTV site because you know Glasnow is quality when on the mound like Burnes. It's just the health that's not.  I honestly didn't realize Glasnow doesn't have 1 single full season of 30+ starts for his career.  Talk about a red flag walking. Pepiot would be a heluva get for Tampa.  Meanwhile if he's being offered for Glasnow, Burnes+ is pushing Miller territory ahead of Sheehan.

Trading for Glasnow using Pepiot doesn't exactly add a full season starter or even more innings than what Glasnow or Pepiot are likely to give LA this season. One is a certainty when taking the mound. The other may continue FiP pitching to a #4/5 Lauer/Rea but get better results than should.

Still leaves a need for a more full season of starts ability in the form of Burnes. Or Yamamota.  Money that Ohtani saved LA to use towards.  Nobody has signed Yamamota yet. So my response on I guess Burnes scratched as a suiter for LA vs the (100pct) I wrote, is referring that in my opinion Burnes is still on LAs radar to pivot to.

Man, the Dodgers just love those injured SP guys.

Glasnow is made of glass, you only know he will have at least one lengthy IL trip per season, if not more.

They get him, and will then have to replace him at some point during the season.  lol  Good for them.

I really don't get the Dodgers wanting anything to do with Glasnow - as you mentioned, they already have an All star roster of arms recovering from injury or dealing with legal issues (Urias).

Perhaps they really do view the Rays as an extended farm team for their mid-level prospects who are hopelessly blocked, and can let them get their feet wet in MLB for a few seasons before they cost the Rays money in arbitration and can then go back and reacquire them via trade if any take a meaningful jump in ability.

Nolan Schanuel would be it.

Schanuel fits extremely well though that’s only 1/3 enough.  Schanuel and Neto for Burnes and Adames would work for me though.

Or maybe it's just the Dodgers blowing smoke to try and scare Milwaukee into dealing them Burnes.

"Oh look, Matt Arnold, we are going to get Glasnow. I guess you have one less suitor for Burnes - unless you lower your asking price..."

In reality, I'm betting that no one - myself included - has any clue what is really going on. Maybe the Dodgers truly believe Burnes is out of reach and are now focusing on Glasnow. But whatever. They should be going hard after Burnes.

Jim Bowden mentioned on MLBN radio this morning... Dodgers, Brewers are still talking Burnes trade.

Give us Sheehan and Busch, call it good.

That would be quite the offseason if the Dodgers picked up Ohtani, Glasnow, Burnes and Yamamoto.

And I would relish them being the 2024 version of the 2023 Mets...but I can't have nice things so they'll probably win 125 games and then lose to Reds in the division series, lol.
