By the way, in regards to game threads, they are up for grabs. I usually create them in the morning but if you come here and don't see one, create one if it suits your fancy. Thanks!

I'm one who thinks that most left-handed players SHOULD be platooned.  I certainly understand the sentiment of playing guys everyday until they fail,  but I don't think Frelick needs 650 PAs this year.  450-500 is plenty and if that gives more ABs to capable players like Perkins/Monasterio/Ortiz so be it.  I like a fresh, engaged bench.

I certainly hope that at least Frelick does get SOME ABs vs lefties and if he is successful then perhaps he gets even more chances, but there isn't anything wrong with a "soft"-platoon IMO.

.80 point difference in batting average between lefties and righties. We're playing to win here.

You're getting piss pounded for the second day in a row on your field and you can't get Hoskins out. I guess that's about all the fun you get if you're a Mets' fan.

1st start in cold, windy conditions..... tough crowd.

I saw Hall‘S final Cactus League start and his velocity was the same 92-93 which the D’Backs didn’t have problems getting the bat on. Then he started landing 76 mph breaking balls for called strikes and pitched well.

tons of movement for Elvis today

Completely. And his slider is having full breaking downward tilt that looks fantastic.

The announcers are asking why they didn't throw at Hoskins in the first at bat. The reason is you don't get your starter ejected.

That and he's 3 for 3 with a 2 run homer and they're sad about it.

Very good point.  5th inning seemed like a "good" spot as well, but I think at that point they were still trying to get severino through the inning as well to avoid extra bullpen strain.

I'm pretty sure the Mets were going to throw at Hoskins at some point today. You just hope it's a 75 mph fastball in the backside, vengeance is done, they baseballed the overslide, we move on. But behind the head is not cool.

It's 2024 and I'm honestly kind of over the concept that the time honored baseball tradition of purposefully throwing a potentially dangerous object at someone at speeds of 90-100 MPH because you're upset about something they did, an act which would meet the legal definition of attempted assault in most jurisdictions, needs to continue to be a part of the game.

Often pitchers will be a tick slower starting than in the BP too.

My thoughts on Hall:

  • His FB is pretty hittable.  Not much swing and miss in it.  As noted... a bit slower than expected.  Hopefully, that picks up a bit more.
  • Struggled early with breaking ball control early, but 2nd time through he seemed to calm and got a lot of bad contact and swing and miss.
  • He pitched around a lot of foot traffic, so good resilience.

He did well in the debut but didn't look overly special either.  Hopefully it has to do with nerves more than anything and he show more in coming games.

The fastball confuses me as it is supposed to be 80 grade. It hasn't looked 80-grade all spring or today.

You gotta hope he isn't hiding an injury based on having this opportunity. Something to watch.

I would watch his postseason highlights from last year.

Turang is a hole in the lineup. Ortiz is as good a defender as Turang and a far far better hitter. I just don't understand the need to start one of the worst hitters in baseball every game. Ortiz has real potential to be a profuctive starter. I wish they'd give him a chance.

I've seen it and I've seen some minor league footage. That's why I don't get what he has thrown with us.

If coming in hard at 2b (legally) is a dirty play, what is throwing at a guys head?  There should be some fines or suspensions if MLB wants to curb this behavior.

On review, that slide was ruled legal yesterday.

Probably has a sore arm.
