It's the rubber match. The Crew were the first team to get to Shota. Impressive win last night.

Is there really a "rubber match" in a four-game series? 🤔

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

But the good news is that we can't lose the series. But let's still stomp the Cubs! 😄

Really good breakdown of the approach changes behind William’s hot start over at FanGraphs today...

”It’s tempting to look at the great leap forward Contreras has taken in 2024 and start rationalizing. He’s not walking more or striking out less. He’s running a .385 BABIP. Surely, this is a hot streak that will even out. But I think that’s wrong. The surface stats are hiding a monumental change under the hood. He’s just gotten more skilled at identifying and attacking pitches. Maybe he won’t quite keep up his current pace, but this is what a great hitter looks like: elite bat speed, great ability to square the ball up, and an advanced ability to attack hittable pitches without over-swinging at bad ones.”

For those who follow this closer, with Mitchell close to being available, how does the club/Murphy see the outfield in the short/medium term? Perkins seems like more of a known commodity at this point, and he's useful. Mitchell has had bad injury luck, but I'm not sure I would mess with what seems to be working. You could play them both (I think), but that would likely come at Chourio's expense (I won't beat that dead horse). Maybe DH Yelich a little more? I'm curious what others think.

Ideally, I'd say we DFA Bauers and teach another lefty to play 1B (Yelich/Mitchell) or trade for Joey Votto...  Hoskins should be back soon too.

That's not an actual mid-season solution.

Good topic for an individual thread if someone wants to start one. Practically speaking I think he'll be rehabbing in AAA for a bit, so you can punt on that a bit longer unless he's just tearing the cover off the ball there. Let's say that is the case though - I don't think there's that much room for Yelich at DH beyond what he's doing today, since Contreras seems intent on playing every day and he and Sanchez will take the bulk of those. Or I guess that's a possible choice - you sit Sanchez more, but then your OF better be outhitting what Sanchez would contribute.

Otherwise, assuming Chourio is not sent down, then I guess you just spread the ABs around, either evenly or based on who's hot?

Done - sorry for clogging the IGT

No worries, just agreeing that this is a good question and worth discussing after this game is long gone. :)

To me today is about getting hungry. Winning 3 of 4 would be a nice statement, not to mention breaking through to the elusive 10-game-over mark. Won't be a walk in the park, that other team looks like they're starting to swing the bats a little better.

If Rea can get into the 5th-6th, BP availability is pretty good today.

How much worse would this team be without Ortiz?

Would you rather have Burnes every 5-6 days, or Ortiz?

Ortiz is rapidly turning into my favorite player.

That baserunning/slide by Frelick was awesome.

Good send too with two out, though I’m sure there would have been complaining about the 3B coach if he had been thrown out (which he would have been if the throw had been about a foot closer to the line).

Rea has them popping up about 350 feet from the plate.
