Looking for chances (like a 3 run lead with a guy already in the game) to extend pitchers a bit is a good thing in my book.

Murphy got away with it……but without knowing all the particulars I’m not sure I’m a fan of the way he managed the pen today.

on to Philly!

Is Paredes the closer while McGill gets healthy. I say YES.

Megill appears to be healthy judging by yesterday…….id stick him right back in there.

Nice. We need to win these sorts of games. Too often in the past it seems like we'd play down to the level of our competition. Nice weekend series.

Paredes has been used a lot and obviously didn’t have his A stuff today. Liked how he still didn’t nibble and just pitched to contact with confidence. I like him. I like him well. This team is so much more fun without Craigory.

I presume if they weren’t facing the worst team in the league, he may have gone about it a bit differently.

And the Pirates have lost

Cubs too.  A Philly win tonight would be ideal.

We beat the Cubs in the series with them didn't we?

Man the fact that Counsell and Stearns for that matter are losing a ton doesn't make me feel bad right now. Two guys who I guess needed a new challenge 😆 Mets 17 gb with 300 million payroll.

Good win considering the start.  Philly will be a good test.

That will be a rough one Philly is a top notch team.

Murphy really, really wanted this to be break day for some folks. Adames & Contreras talked him out of it, but you saw evidence of it w/Herget coming out for the 8th. Some ugly baserunning decisions helped immensely. But for the role he's in you gotta love Herget filling the zone (of course he walks the 170-something hitter to start trouble, not much excuse for that).

Hoskins or even Perkins hitting for Frelick would've made a lot of sense in the bottom of the 8th. But if you're going to let Frelick hit, the safety squeeze was a great call. Unfortunately a poor bunt, and poor decision from Yelich.

Paredes. Looks like they found another one (provided he can keep filling the zone).

BP in nice shape for Philly.

With today’s results the Cubs are three times closer to the Reds in last place (2.5 games) than they are to the Brewers in first place (7.5 games).

I am fine with Murph trying to sneak an off day for some guys today. Every win matters but you can't play your A guys every day and have them last.

I enjoy your comments & posts as a general rule - you obviously have a ton of baseball knowledge

I simply don’t see how the squeeze with no outs by Frelick was a good idea

Looked like Pham might have had a chance if he went wide and tried to get a hand on the back of the plate instead of going for contact with Contreras.  Serves him right.

Sometimes you read where you think the throw is going & try to get hit with it, especially when you know any kind of a decent throw is getting you. That might've been what Pham was doing.

Then again maybe he was just being Pham.
