I was very excited when the Brewers signed Sean Berry in December of 1998. Berry was fresh off a stellar .895 OPS season with the Astros, and at only 33 years of age, I thought he had several years of middle-of-the-order tread left on his tires. Unfortunately Berry turned out to be one of the least effective free agent signings in the team's history.

He hit more than 25 in a season twice. I don’t think that places him anywhere near  the best power hitting shortstops in MLB history.

Think about it: A-Rod, Ripken, Banks, Garciaparra, Machado, Lindor. By comparison  Hardy couldn’t hold their jocks.

I've thought about it. He ranks 13th all time in HR by shortstops in MLB history. I never said he was a better power hitter than any of the guys you mentioned. I said "quietly he was one of the best". Of all the guys who have played shortstop primarily in MLB history ... he has more home runs than all but 12 (soon to be 13) of them.

What I said was correct, respectfully.

It was by all accounts a failed trade, but Jonathon Schoop did have a few nice moments in his brief time as a Brewer, including a clutch Grand Slam in San Fran.

That was in Milwaukee vs SFG.

Agreed though.

Yeah, not a big fan of Shoop that year. I don't think anyone disliked him more than I did at the time, but that grand slam off that redass Bumgarner brought a smile to my face.

Another non-obvious pick for an obvious number.

Decided to look up Mr. Johnson, whom I was unfamiliar with.  His one fairly successful season as a manager, and the subsequent departure was a wild story.
