As frustrating as nights like this are it is good to know how far away the Brewers really are. No need to be messing around in the off season with Williams. Trade him for top offer. Try to keep building for when Freeman Betts and company retire.

By the very same token, I would gauge the market for Yelich this offseason as well.

Frelick just looks awful at the plate. Too many weak ground balls.

We need a new set of eyes looking at these guys and working with them.

Hopefully Hoskins opts out. I'm guessing if he gets to 25 homers he will. Brewers need to allocate those dollars elsewhere. If you can get out of Yelich deal do it.

Just put Turang at #9 and leave him there! It's sickening watching him flail away and whiff wrsp or roll over on a ball. Murphy, it's time to realize Turang is a terrific fielder but a .230's - 240's hitter.

Josh Bell just keeps mashing for the D Backs.

Another double and an RBI tonight already.

Opsing almost 1.010 since they acquired him

This is so much more than "Me strong like bull, hit home run". Look back at the first 3-4 innings for Rea, how many pitches LA laid off of--pitches that missed, but were close. Pitches that were quality, IF you get a swing, and that he DID get swings on much of this season. Pretty much throughout the lineup, they take that stuff like it's missing by a foot-and-a-half. That puts an awful lot of pressure on a pitcher (the HR AB by Will Smith is an excellent example). That's what leads to a pitcher cracking. In the 5 run inning, Rea cracked.

Contrast that with Frelicks' AB w/2nd & 3rd & one out. He's been panned this year, probably sometimes unfairly, but you need to know yourself. His approach went totally out the window there simply due to being overwhelmed by the situation. He fell into a IIRC 1-2 hole when he probably should've been up 3-1. Ortiz, same thing in the next AB.

If LA had 2nd & 3rd w/one out & the pitcher started to nibble, pretty good chance the next three guys walk. They get good pitches to hit because their approach EARNS them. We did that somewhat in ATL, and at other times sporadically this year. We kinda made Sale & Morton crack. Couldn't do it tonite vs someone who's no better. It's every bit as harmful as taking pitches down the middle if not moreso. I thought this was a hallmark of Blacks' game, discipline, earning good pitches to hit. But in his first handful of games up here I don't see it.

Some more than others.

I don't know how to quantify the "Ass handed to you" stat, but their run differential--a stat that I admittedly think is kind of silly--is third best in all of baseball. Pretty sure we aren't in the "some" category.

Unfortunately this is all too true. We've done the best we can with the resources we have. You do scouting a and you do a pitchers' lab and you do analytics and you play moneyball and put yourself in the best possible position you can...only for 90% of the time, reality to hit you in the face and say, "Hey, guess what? None of that matters, because we have way more money and resources than you. Sucks to be you!"

There's no doubt in my mind a team in Milwaukees' position can reach a World Series. The problem is, you have to be close to perfect in your personnel decisions, you need to be more fortunate than most regarding injuries, the farm has to produce--and it also doesn't hurt if the ball bounces your way in the key moments. The randomness of this game compared to others certainly can't work against you.

When you make a mistake in signing a player, a key guy gets injured or you simply have an off-season hole to fill you can't just throw money at the problem to solve it.

We can’t make it through two games before it’s time to trade everybody.

hahahaha

Yeah. Lots of good folks on here, some of whom aren't built for fandom over 162.

Yes. We couldn't compete the last two days with a team that contains arguably the most potent top three of the order in decades, followed by a guy with 27 HRs & another guy with 16, and they all happen to be swinging the bats well. Let's tear it down.

They should definitely hire you. I mean all the teams should. You clearly know hitting better than they do.

“These guys have overachieved all year and I’m not going to get down on them, that’s for sure,” Murphy said.

Sheesh, I'm not saying he's wrong, but seems like we're already setting the table for our "we accomplished a lot this season winning our division and we were just happy to be here" speech after our first round gentleman's sweep exit.

They haven’t won the division yet.   I hope this isn’t the concession speech for that too

One minute he's calling out their approaches at the plate, and saying they're overwhelmed by the moment. The next is this.

Pat's a great vibes guy but I don't know if he's built for the big chair long term. The in-game management kinda stinks, and he spends a lot of time calling the guys out while taking little accountability himself.

In basketball, I've heard coaches say there's no such thing as a half-shot. It's either going in or it's not, so eff it, let it fly. I'd like to see this group take that approach more, especially against LA. They're way too tight.
