So they must have another plan to replace him?

We already don't have enough power, they have something on the horizon we don't know about yet?

He's going to have a rebound year I'm thinking, so replacing him and Adames in the power category will be pretty difficult unless they have something going on.

Even if his bat comes around - his defense is horrible … I would be thrilled if they could unload him … & I agree we need more power in the lineup

If they find a taker for Hoskins, I wonder if the Goldschmidt rumors from earlier in the offseason will resurface:

https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/milwaukee-brewers-would-reportedly-love-to-add-paul-goldschmidt-this-winter-after-being-let-go-by-st-louis-cardinals

In a vacuum, I'm not sure I'd prefer the 37 year old Goldschmidt over a 32 year old Hoskins looking to rebound, but just piecing a couple reports together to guess what the front office may be thinking. It could be a slight upgrade at first while also freeing up a few million dollars to shore up other spots on the roster, depending on what it takes to unload Hoskins.

Hoskins is due $18M this year, plus a $4M buyout for next year (https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/player/_/id/24355/rhys-hoskins). Meanwhile, FanGraph's crowd sourcing is estimating a 1 year, $14M contract for Goldschmidt (https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker?&pos=1b).

If you can then use the saved money to grab a couple more guys to shore up the infield (there's a few free agent possibilities out there in Moncada, DeJong, Solano, Polanco, Rojas, and others, in addition to any trade possibilities), you could have an interesting plan in place.

It's Hoskins contract year and he is healthy.  It might be his last big contract next off season. Let the man play ....

Chourio LF

Contreras C

Yelich DH

Hoskins 1B

Mitchell CF

Ortiz SS

Frelick RF

The Mess that is 3B

Turang 2B

Now we also have a 1st base opening because Tyler Black to me is only backup quality.  I always am hoping for a breakout year for Black but it never seems to happen at the big league level.

Didn’t he make his big league debut less than a year ago?

Yes, but he was also only 23 years old. If he's not going to breakout in 18 games at the big league level by now, he never will.

When I said "Breakout" I meant having a good offensive season. There is a reason why he only had 49 at bats with above average speed. Because he didn't get on base.

Maybe they will end up keeping Hoskins but it does seem like they want to trade him.

I also heard Brewers are to sign a contract today to keep the team in Milwaukee until 2050.

I'm with you, think he will have a productive year. He no doubt is not worth what they are paying him but I am highly skeptical the Brewers will spend what they will pocket on a Hoskins trade so a trade makes them worse. It will hurt the bottom line this season but there are no long term consequences to keeping him. Black will get more opportunities and they will find a way to play him if he produces.
