Legislation being introduced for future funding of American Family Field: UPDATE New lease through 2050

Heard a segment on this on the radio earlier today.  Sounds like the senate has plans of making some significant changes to what the assembly passed.  One of the things that was mentioned, which is something I wonder about as well, is where the money from the state comes from if the income tax structure in the state changes.  Under the current tax structure, the state's share may be basically covered by income taxes of players and other team employees but republicans have made it pretty clear that if they regain the governor's office they plan to push towards a flat tax, if not eliminating income tax entirely, and suddenly the math won't add up.

First, good luck passing it.   Second, what happens is it would just get made up elsewhere in property and consumption taxes.   Forget the TX vs CA bs in it.   The money has to come from somewhere, this would just shift it around (and likely would leave more burden on the average joe)

Not sure why a ticket tax is a non-starter. Have the people using the stadium pay for the upgrades.

Because the Brewers want to keep ticket prices low. They have some of the lowest prices in baseball, which they argue allows more people to come to games.

Of course the Brewers don't want to add it. But adding something like 2% per ticket will still leave them at one of the lowest prices in baseball.

Yeah. We'll see. They'll probably have to either give into that or add to their $100 million contribution.

I can’t read this article, but another article has the Brewers guy referring to a $3 tax. I’m guessing that is what is being floated for concerts and whatnot. Probably the same they would push for Brewers games if given the opportunity.

You would have to do a 7% tax or so just to match what $3 per ticket would equate to.

It isn’t good for ticket sales. Brewers gain nothing but lose ticket sales probably in the thousands. People don’t like hidden fees and taxes. I remember years ago I was going to go to a Cubs game until I got to checkout and there were like three different entertainment/sports fees at checkout. All the time I will just decide not to buy things because of fees, shipping charge, etc. I see at checkout.

The Brewers have already stated there is absolutely no chance they will put a fee on Brewers tickets. It won’t happen.

They will likely add a fee to concerts etc. like has been floated. Brewers have already said they are open to this.

One republican (who has drafted income tax cut legislation recently) admitted the deal as written includes enough projected buffer/surplus that even with the more generous tax cuts they have considered would still leave them in the green to pay their share. The only way it would become an issue is if they abolished income tax all together or if they made a flat tax. Both of which are incredibly unlikely anyway. I believe he said that if that were to happen, they could cover their contribution a different route. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there is something in the bill to cover if income tax revenues plummets as a backup.

I’m not sure what logic you are trying to pull?

Are you saying people that go to Brewers games should then get to divide up all the income tax etc. from the team being there? I might be able to get behind that concept.

...and no roof?

I saw all the AI designs for every team, and some were just plain stupid.

Somehow the AI hates me and created the Metrodome, Kingdome and the Astrodome all in one.  This must be nuked from orbit and then nuked from below just to make sure it never happens.

Senate passes the stadium funding bill after a couple amendments (increase in ticket surcharge for non-Brewers events and adding city of Milwakee/Milwaukee appointees to stadium board) were made to get enough support.

Lost in the Murphy news…I don’t think we’ll get any better news this off-season. This was actually in question as of this morning.

In question of passing today maybe...but that was arguably one of the smoothest new stadium/major renovation deals in recent history.

yeah the bucks deal was sailed through pretty easy. Politicians are getting more creative in getting these done because for most a sales tax increase is a non-starter. I like the idea of trying income tax into the deal, because thats money that wouldn't be available if the team left.
