Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread! **2025**

Sold my hot dog cart. I'm now completely out of the vending game. I liked running that cart but just couldn't get out often enough to make it work. But if I retire in the US it's likely I'll start up again and use it as a retirement job.

That's too bad. I do appreciate that you've updated us on the entire history of the hot dog cart. It's been quite the roller coaster ride for you.

Yeah, I agree with Homer.  It was interesting because it would be very outside my norm (i.e. office job) and seeing the behind the scenes of something you'd never think was that complicated.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

You mentioned the need to have and challenges of finding a commercial kitchen in order to have that hot dog cart.

Maybe your calling (and more lucrative career) is owning a commercial kitchen if they are that hard to find.

Anyone else ever been a victim of the Gen Z stare?

I met a friend's daughter who was staring at her phone.  I greeted her and asked her some simple question about herself.  She looked up at her phone and stared at me for a couple of seconds...then went back to staring at her phone.

To which "stare" do you refer?

Let's say you are a customer at a retail store or restaurant. Instead of saying hi or something, they just stare at you. In the last few years I have had quite a number of interactions at these places where the worker didn't say one word.

I saw the discussion on reddit and thought it was interesting.

When I walk the dogs around the neighborhood or ride my bike, I will often say a quick, "hi".  Even if Gen Z'ers don't have their nose in their phone, it is like they didn't hear me at all.  Maybe they have hearing loss from the earbuds they have had in their ears since birth?  😉

Don't remember it exactly, but it was probably a stupid post. I don't see where there's an option to delete posts entirely, so the period seems to take up the least space.

Nothing is too stupid for the "Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread!" 😂

You can also post "Delete me" and one of the mods will delete it.

I don't know, maybe a blank post is about as pointless and dumb as it gets.  Then again, some of the posts people make here might be better off blank.

A friend once sent a blank email to a bunch of our friends.  Another friend replied "'Enlightening!', Mike Lupica."

I thought that was funny.

Fantasy football is going to need to adjust and break 60 yard+ out of the 50 yard+ grouping.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

There are a lot of names ending with ski in MLB now.  Which is usually the easiest part of saying a Polish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian or Belarusian name.

I was lucky to be born with an easy to say last name that is Polish.

A lot is spent to cater to stupid people who inherit stupid wealth.

Well, been about a year and I've lost 40# on a regimen of lifting and diet. Not a huge total but I wasn't really overweight to begin with, just skinny-fat. Now a bit underweight but didn't lose the gut as I'd hoped. I suspect it's because I didn't have that much muscle mass to begin with. Eventually I'd lose the gut if I kept cutting, but I don't want to be rail-thin to do so. Despite the gut I sometimes hear "skinny" which tells me I really need to bulk my chest/lats/delts. Planning a lean-bulk starting Thanksgiving to put back everything I worked hard to take off, but hopefully a good percentage of that being muscle. And after that, back to cutting. Didn't really gain muscle this year but wasn't much expecting to while cutting. No huge transformation like you'd see on Twitter, but I'm not 25 years old or on TRT or Tren, so there's that.

Now that it's getting colder will have to start driving 40 minutes to the nearest gym instead of my outdoor home gym which'll be tough.

But on the plus side I used to take off 3x/yr because my back went out, and it hasn't gone out in a year+. May need another major surgery on it in time, though. Could be 20 years down the road depending on how degenerative it is, or I could do it in 7-10 years right before retirement when I could use a year of sick time (ours accumulates and unused gets counted as service time) and would get paid better for that time than if I did it while retired. But a description of the surgery sounds terrible and I don't think I want to do it at all.

I have a whole bunch of body-weight workouts that you can do at home with a minimal amount of space.  The gym I was a member at in 2020 sent them out and I did them at home in my living room throughout the winter of 2020-2021.

Send me a PM and I will send them to you.
