Adames and Contreras went deep off Martinez on 8/30/34 in Cincinnati.

Martinez went 5.1 IP and allowed 7 H, 1 BB,  4 ER and 3 K.

Bad news: on 8/10/24, Martinez threw 7 IP of 1 H ball in Milwaukee.

Edit: Tyler Alexander gets the start for Milwaukee

Please, please let Contreras hit one out and break out of whatever this thing is he is going through.

Three from Alexander, three from Rodriguez then back to Hudson, Koenig and Megill?

Or, plan B: Thomas and Anderson soak up innings.

Not sure who makes room for Rodriguez? I don’t see how we make it through today without a fresh Rodriguez.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak reports that pitching prospect Carlos Rodriguez is in the team's clubhouse on Thursday before their game against the visiting division-rival Cincinnati Reds. It sounds as though he's being called up from Triple-A Nashville, and the 23-year-old will be a candidate to start just his third game in the big leagues on Friday. In his first start of the year for Nashville, the team's No. 23 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gave up an unearned run while walking one and fanning seven in five innings of work. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound hurler allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 19 hits (three homers) while walking three and striking out nine in 12 1/3 innings in his first three MLB starts in 2024. Rodriguez attacks hitters with six different pitches but doesn't really have an elite pitch and should probably be avoided in fantasy if he makes a spot start on Friday.

Early team batting splits:

RHP: .699 OPS (104 PA)

LHP: .572 OPS (162 PA)

Fun facts: Our LHB have higher OPS against LHP than our RHB. Our LHB have 125 OPS+ against RHP (54 PA)

I appreciate it is early and some players will improve toward career averages.

A win would be nice....a blowout would be better.  Just don't lose a close game and blow out the bullpen even further.  Just go with Alexander, Anderson and Thomas and only use Payamps or Peguero if necessary.  Send Anderson down after the game and bring up CarRod to start tomorrow with a rested bullpen.  Elvin Rod goes on Sunday and then everybody gets a rest and re-set with the off day Monday.  Freddy starts on Tuesday @Col, Mears should be back in the bullpen on Friday @Ariz, and Myers and Quintana should be knocking on the door by the time they come back home on the 14th for the Tigers series.  I'll be happy if they are 8-8 at that time and nobody else gets injured.

Carlos Rodriguez is on six days rest today. All things being equal, we probably are better off getting three innings from Carlos Rodriguez today.

You make a lot of good points, though. @Oxy

They could send Patrick down, then start CarGo today and Alexander tomorrow.  That would be the same difference to me.

They might just have CROD up for innings tonight, but also worth mentioning Nestor is having a kid any day and we could just be preparing for that without having to be down an arm for a day

Going to the game tonight.
Hoping to see some offense from the home team.

Since Nestor pitched yesterday, maybe they had Carlos Rodriguez nearby in case Cortes needed to leave.

That performance last night was even more impressive knowing that he was 9 months pregnant!

Probably, they are still in the 15 day window of optioning players so couldn't do something like bring up Rodriguez and send down somebody else.

I am unaware of this rule; so the opening day 26 man roster is "set" for 15 days (except for injury/bereavement/family leave etc.)?  If so, since Anderson was called up to replace Civale, is he exempt from the 15 day window or does he have to stay up with the club as well?

I believe that teams get an exemption for players on paternity/family medical/etc. leave, so they could call up Rodriguez without having to send anybody down.  Then, when Nestor gets reinstated, Rodriguez gets sent down.

Our team doctors seem to do a remarkable job identifying injuries at moments when the bullpen could use reinforcements.

After a player is optioned he cannot be recalled for 15 days unless he is replacing a player on the injured/bereavement/paternity lists. Anderson can be optioned at any time, but cannot be recalled

Yes, once a player HAS been optioned he has to stay down for 15 days.  I knew that one...but that's the other direction.  Outlander made it sound like nobody can be optioned for 15 days, which I've never heard, and if true I was asking why/if that's an opening roster rule or what...
