Who says we can't win? The point of my post was that even discussing Murph being fired at this point in the season is dumb.

You said they don't want to pay two managers i guess because they can't afford it. Just say I like Murphy and leave small market out of it. They are not bad because of market size. They lost a key player and did absolutely nothing to replace him because.... they are a small market? I don't think so.

No, it's just a consideration as to why a team would prefer to not pay two managers.

This is what you posted.

This is bad, even for Game Threads.

So like I said what does paying two managers have to do with the decision. Murphy is what 65? A young team that's going to get younger should have a young guy to grow with. Murphy was nice for continuity but let's move into phase 2. Imo

I'm sure Murph might be forced to retire at the end of the season if the team is really bad. However, the season is still very young and the team is almost .500. Phase 2 might happen but we aren't there yet.

I know he doesn’t play for the Cubs but can someone punch Jesse Winker’s very punchable face?  It worked last year.

Yelich is not that guy. Who is? Contreas?

It's entirely possible that there is no one. This organization has had a history of "lead by example" types. They've also had an Adames, a Prince Fielder, a Lorenzo Cain. even a Dave Parker for a little while. Now? Yelich might come the closest, but that's kinda by default. If he was a couple more years into his career, maybe Frelick.

So you don't believe Murphy is at least part of the problem here?

It's embarrassing to watch. He's rolling over on just about everything and swinging as if he's guessing on every pitch. Brewers are stuck with him for 3 more years. Poor Murphy, he's got little he can do with what Arnold gave him and nothing in the minors to help the offense.

Which is why fans need to lay off Counsell for bolting for Chicago. Almost a decade of having to manage small market rosters. Not even a quarter of the way through the season and all of us here are tired of watching this team.

You have to ask why exactly Durbin was the guy the Brewers settled on from the Yankees. He clearly can't play 3rd or short so he's a 2b with a fringe bat. Thank God Williams has been brutal or this would be the whole conversation.

I think they fully expected turang to slide over to short, but that was derailed by his arm soreness in spring so now they are just rolling with it.

Correct, the days of player team loyalty left 25 years ago when owners were not loyal.

Why Did Counsell Leave?

Reason #1) Over a 100% pay bump for Counsell.

Reason #2) Trading for decent players over picking up DFA' ed players.

Reason #3)  Brewers Ranked 21st in fielding of All MLB teams.

Reason #4) Brewers team batting average is .239 / Cubs team batting average is .265

And I know I missed a few reasons. Do ya blame him?

I’m surprised that Turang’s arm soreness lasts over a month. I suppose it is possible.

A sore arm does not last over a month unless it's injured.  It's like any other sore muscle that you had 10 days max.

I believe today (5/4/25) would have been Counsell’s 10th Anniversary as Brewers manager

The have-nots need to pull out and form their own league ... the fans are the real losers in all this.

Big-market fans cannot get the same satisfaction they deserve when they win because of the inherit advantage their teams have -AND- small-market fans can never realistically expect to contend for a championship.

Fix it, MLB!

Small-market owners -- get some courage!

Fans -- speak up!

Cry me a river.

The Brewers are 16-18. What did people expect their record to be right now? 24-10?

A bunch of grumbling due to heightened expectations is what it is. Part of those heightened expectations are because Murphy is a good manager and  gets more out of less.

If a team is .500 or a little better they’ll be in play for the post season until September, so give the Brewers a chance to have a couple hitters at least get hot (ex. the Cubs have started the year with 6 players on pace for 40+ homeruns none of whom have ever topped 30 in their careers) get back some of the premium arms that are injured then see what they have.

Do I think Murphy is the cause of us being blown out so often? No. Do I think he could manage the bullpen better at times? Sure. But keep in mind that he gets information that we do not.

Vehemently disagree. It was a rat move to our biggest enemy from a man who claimed to be one of us. Treacherous at best.
