Cornielle with a called strike three. To be honest it was a clear ball off the plate. But two pitches early strike three was called ball three instead. Karma. Cornielle 5 IP, only the 1 run allowed, 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 K and 66 pitches through 5. He should be good for at least 6 innings I hope.

And in the Mudcats game, position player Mikey Kane in to pitch again. But with a 16-1 lead I hope we don't have a repeat of last night.

OH no

Caden Vire - was stuggling to get the zone, but is out of the game after a walk

And they check his arm, and he walks off holding his left elbow. Just awful to see. Let's hope that this is nothing serious, hopeful he is OK and can get back on the mound again

Dang it. Cornielle was so close.  A grounder off the pitcher that could have been a double play, but just a force out.

Then a hot shot up the 1B line that was inches from being out #3, but just foul as Warren fielded it.

Two pitches later it is a no doubter home run to right and it's 5-3. Cornielle's night is done. Shoot, so close to getting through 6. But Biloxi still has a lead 5-3.

ANd Bowman gives up a homer to the first batter he sees. 5-4 lead now, but he strikes out the next batter to keep it 5-4 heading to bottom of 6 [EDIT: I keep forgetting that Biloxi is the home team]

Mudcats closed it out. Nashville falls 4-1. And I look away and T-Rats try to get back into the game with a 4-run 7th, as they close the deficit to 7-5.

Peoria gets a coupes of runs back. It's 9-5. And T-Rats get some base runners but nothing doing and it through 8 and a half in Peoria.

Biloxi has Bowman out to try to close it out. Pratt fielder choice, and Wilken sac fly get 2 runs back and a 7-4 Shuckers lead in the top of the 7th.

For anyone wanting to go back and view:

3-2 count. Men on 1st and 2nd. He walks the batter on an outside heater (third walk of the frame and fourth of his evening, I thinkseth) 3:53:37 he comes to a pause. Then delivers. Misses just high and outside on a heater. Immediately walks off the mound to the 3B side and grabs his throwing elbow. He is then seen holding the elbow throughout the mound visit. Sigh. I think we all know that is not a good sign ever for a young hurler.

It's 18 wins in 24 games for Biloxi. and 4 straight against Pensacola to tie for the division lead. Amazing.

Total team effort on the offense led by the prospects Pratt, Lara, Wilken, Adams, along with Mayor of Biloxi Warren, and efforts by Rodriguez, Spain, Murray. And solid pitching with a very good 6-man rotation now: Cornielle-Crow-Kuener-Hunt-Wichrowski-Kuener. And the duo of closers in Childers and Yeager.

Well, having won four straight vs Pensacola, the Shuckers are no tied in first place with the Blue Wahoos at 19-13 overall. My goodness what a turnaround from this young squad. Thank the heavens. Let's keep it going!

Does Kuehner pitch twice in a six game span or does he have an identical Twin I am unaware of?!

Agreed. I was actually surprised he didn't start the year in AAA.

Yeah, I figured between his age (27 this year), and having a solid season (3.17 FIP was 15th of 74 Southern Leaguers min. 50 IP) in the closers role he was a lock for the NASH pen.

I’m sure the dev team had a more detailed plan for him than “strikeout more walk fewer” but he’s at a 32.7 K% | 5.8 BB% so far versus a 25.9 K% | 8.8 BB% last year.

And there is a closer already there in Childers, and possible other candidates like Tyler Bryant and Chase Costello who have the repertoire and demeanor to be late inning guys, although their 2025 seasons haven’t started as hot or consistent.

Your math would be correct! It's certainly been a much different ACL team in the early going compared to last year. I think we are seeing that the 2023 IFA class was maybe a bit of a down year. Yophery is the only super notable prospect from that class and the fact the Brewers traded him means they probably weren't internally as high on him as they were of their other top of the class IFA guys.

I don’t even know if you can blame the 2023 class for the pitching woes last season. Yanez undoubtedly struggled, and Prado got hit around a bit, but Hernandez, Flores and Cortez all posted + K/BB rates. Overall the youngsters were probably slightly better than average for their age, it was the 20+ crew that was the biggest culprit. Jackson, Valerio, Mogollon and Vire all struggled massively to find the strike zone at times.

Hopefully the early results are a sign that they can avoid the control related blowups this season. I am still leery about Yanez, but Meneses seems improved thus far. King struggled a bit in his first outing, but if he has difficulty I think he is more likely to be Prado than Yanez. It is too soon to tell on Carra and Espinal, but I am encouraged overall.
