I’m curious - for all those on this board who have excused the Brewers poor play by reminding everyone else that “it’s early” - when does that explanation go away?

Tomorrow is the 1/3 season mark (54 games)

Continuing to say “it’s early” - implying that there is plenty of time for Milwaukee to turn things around  - is similar to telling someone “Happy New Year” in March or April. At some point - that response no longer applies.

Last year the Brewers played their 54th game on May 28th.

On that date DET (26-27), HOU (24-31), NYM (22-32), and ARI (25-29) were all under .500.

Three of those teams went on to make the playoffs and Arizona lost the tiebreaker with 89 wins.

In 2023 the Brewers played their 54th game on May 30th.

On that date PHI (25-29) was under .500 and made the playoffs. The Yankees were 34-23 and went on to miss the playoffs that year.

In 2022 the Brewers played their 54th game on June 3rd.

On that date CLE (23-24), SEA (23-29), ATL (26-27), and PHI (23-29) were all under .500 and made the playoffs.

Most of the teams that are in the playoffs or close to it at this point are going to get most of the spots at the end of year too, but if recent history is any guide (I'm sure there's plenty more examples farther back too) they won't get ALL the spots.

Personally, I don't have much faith in the Brewers making an improbable run, but if I did have faith it wouldn't be all that improbable either so the two go kind of go hand in hand.

Here's what I do think I know, though. If the Ghost of Uecker is perchance pulling strings from The Great Beyond, he wouldn't draw it up for the Brewers to go wire to wire leading the division all year and cruising to the postseason. Feel like a gifted story teller such as Bob would come up with a much more devious arc than that.

Well through 54 games last year the Mets were 22-32 and the Astros were 24-30, The Padres and Tigers were .500 as well

I wouldn’t excuse the poor play and say “it’s early” - they’ve just been downright mediocre. But there is still plenty of time to turn things around

Ortiz and Durbin went 6 for 6 and Yelich seems to be getting on track. Yes it stinks to think that last night we were thinking about getting back to .500 and we dropped two tough ones. But if those 3 can get back on track those positives will long outway the bad taste of this one.

I think it is time to say goodbye to Tyler Alexander. DL Hall is ready, Yoho and Jay are pitching well to be taxi guys at least. Woody and Quintana will need roster spots back soon (probably missing a rehab guy as well). Guys like Alexander end up being a dime a dozen at this point in his career.

And what is Murphy's love affair with Tyler Alexander I swear that guy pitches in 3 out of every 4 games lately.

For me it's Memorial Day. Given the injuries, I hoped we would be .500 and within 5 games of the division leader. Instead, we're sliding backwards to futility and a sell off.

I'm chourious about your "too early" cut off date?

two months is a lot of runway to make a couple more desperation moves before things travel further South

I love the Brewers & believe they have a bright future - IF they hold steady, take their lumps in 2025, sell off veteran pitchers & position players at the deadline, reset this next offseason, & hold on to our valuable prospects for a window of contention starting in … 2027 🤞

This team is a few bats and a big arm (or two) away from being a competitor, IMO. I still watch and get worked up but yeah, I don't have big expectations any more. Just not enough talent on the big league roster.

I feel total apathy towards this seasons team.  Normally I am bothered by the losses but I think this team is closer to the pirates than being a real contender so I find myself caring less by the day. To me its all about the minor leaguers providing a brighter future as I think this season is essentially over for the big league team.

The lack of power really hurts the offense so even on the rare days where they get a lot of baserunners they often don't score much since they usually need three hits in one inning to score.

The dog days of summer aren't even here yet and being 6.5 games out with 2/3rds of the season to go definitely is not insurmountable. But we do need a leader on this team and it was Adamas last year.  Someone needs to step up on this team.  We also will be getting some pitchers back soon.

They were that way when they had Burnes and Woody and Freddy and they never got those additions. What makes anyone think it changing

Yeah he has underperformed but it didn’t feel fair to include him in that group. He has at least been better than league average!

Plus he is playing with a broken finger.
