Chourio a dead duck how on earth did he even think he would be safe.

That was also an absolutely brutal AB from Contreras.

Remember when people thought this 10 game homestand would be a great opportunity for the Brewers to gain ground?

We are 16-19 on the road. Maybe were just not that good.

Rough outing for Patrick. Was probably bound to have a clunker in the near future. Guess today was the day. Did finish with three Ks in his last inning. Will need to see how he shakes today off the next time up in the rotation.

3 hits????

Had to expect some regression to the mean after the Brewers’ 4 run offensive explosion yesterday.

Perfectly solid backup.   With Contreras injury and him just kind of middling this year likely because of it.  Have to wonder if/when they bite the bullet of an IL stint.  Maybe if Yelich is out or hits the IL a middle ground of a bunch of DH days for Contreras could come.  Otherwise I was thinking to wrap a DL stint around the ASB to try and get him a couple full weeks

It wasn't surprising to only take a game off the Padres because they are one of the better teams in the NL.   But to lose a series to this particular Braves team is bad.

I know the record doesn't show it but I think everyone knows the Braves are better than their record and will likely make a run to respectability at some point (probably too big a hole for playoffs).  Top 5ish of their lineup is still very good.  Then have guys like Albies/Harris on the bottom who are solid/ok too.   And one game was vs Sale.     Really their record is skewed by a terrible BP blowing a lot of games.  Which of course, the BP is part of the team but the rest of the overall team is still pretty solid and the same core that has been winning for years.

Yea, I'd have wanted 2/3 too, but with one vs Sale as a huge uphill battle you still split the other two.  Get 3/4 vs STL now to make up for it.

Ah the now 'RARE' Complete Game.   Good to see it again even if it came against the Brewers.

105 pitches. Our starters need that many pitches to make it into the sixth inning.

Chourio didn't necessarily 'think' he'd be safe. One out. Contact play on a ground ball. I know many hate that but it's pretty much universal throughout MLB, save for a comebacker. You roll the dice on the positioning, the clean pickup & a good throw--not to mention it being a tag play--not all going the way of the defense, as opposed to hoping for a 2-out base hit.

Might have gone differently if Contreras didn't go up to the plate as if there was a shot clock on his swinging the bat. Just horrible.

There's really no 'right' involved, AFA Chourio is concerned. Contact play, you go. It's not his decision. If any one of the aforementioned 4 things don't go the way of the defense you're probably safe. I get how frustrating it is when it doesn't work, but with one out it's what you usually see teams do. I suspect there are #s for this somewhere that show the odds are much better going contact than if you wait/hope for a 2-out base hit.

In his first 7 innings, Schwellenbach had no single-inning pitch count over thirteen. I don't know if I've ever seen that. Maybe Maddux. His being so effective combined w/the way we (aren't) swinging the bats is a bad combination. I usually rail about a lack of patience when an opposing starter goes this deep, but not today. He was that good, and the few pitches we got to hit we're mostly fouled off. popped up, etc. Contreras----kudos to him for his hard work behind the dish & how IMO he's gotten so much better at calling games, but geez, every one of his ABs today he looked like he didn't want to be up there. Just terrible.

I guess Frelick is our POTG. Two magnificent plays in right, and he actually had a base hit.

Like they say, no one is going to feel sorry for you. Not the greatest time to have Sonny Gray coming up next.
