The one guy who makes the most sense to me is Ryan O'Hearn.  Upgrades Bauers, insurance in case Vaughn turns back into a pumpkin.

Only making $8M this year.  Free agent at the end of the season, so he shouldn't cost much.

Two of Luis Lara/Mike Boeve/Jadher Areinamo/Carlos Rodriguez, can have Elvis Peguero if they want him.

o’Hearn has just never been that good past years and I don’t wanna pony up for him to regress to his norm.   I like what we have at first.

Id be open to paying a premium for Westburg though as a controllable infielder.   I’d offer Henderson, CRod, Hall, Black and Boeve and see what that looks like to them.

Please stop throwing Rodriguez, Hall, Black, and Boeve in every trade hypothetical as if they have actual real value.

They do have actual value smart buddy.   And lots of control left.   And we are in some cases trading for a rental with these pieces.   Ignore as you wish though big timer.

You can't offer the same exact players in EVERY trade scenario.  You have to take into account what the team we are trading needs.  What makes you think all these teams need the same thing?  What makes you think all these teams want the guys that you don't want?

It's monotonous.

These are guys that have value but lack opportunity that should be there on a selling team in some capacity.

but to jump ahead, yes I have certain players I want to deal at the deadline and will take the best player we can get for them.

O'Hearn has an OPS+ of 134 in 2025, 120 in 2024, and 122 in 2023.

Bauers has an OPS+ of 91 in 2025, 85 in 2024, and 87 in 2023.

I'm going to guess that Westburg would probably cost us a package of Pratt, Henderson, Lara and either Hardin/Wichrowski.

O's aren't going to be motivated to move Westburg with 4.5 years of control left, so you're going to have to severely overpay to get him.

I could stomach something close to that deal, but if Pratt is involved I’d sub in CRod for Henderson and just see what they say.   Throw in another 30-40 prospect if need be.   I’d be all in for that.

Even if you can do Pratt, Wichowski, Lara, CRod and Black for Westburg I’d pull the trigger instantly.

Well, you can substitute CRod in for Henderson all you want, but there's no chance the O's are doing that deal.  I'm sorry, but CRod does not have much value right now...and probably never will have much trade value.  If you're getting a guy like Westburg in a trade, the package going back in return is going to have to sting.  The package you outlined above just isn't strong enough to get a guy like Westburg.

What would you say the difference in trade value was between Patrick and CRod in spring training?

And....why does that matter?  All that matters is what the trade value is for both of those guys at this moment - assuming you are wanting this proposed deal to happen here at the deadline.  And at the current moment, Patrick has much more trade value than CRod.

And if that’s true, then selling high on Patrick and keeping CRod to maybe equal Patrick’s performance as soon as next year might be the way to go.   Not really disagreeing with you and appreciate the opinion/response.

Chad Patrick won the International League Triple Crown last year. He had a 62 ERA- and 85 FIP- over 136 IP.

Carlos Rodriguez was much closer to average with a 96 ERA- | 100 FIP- over his 129 innings in 2024.

I'd say one of those guys looked like he was ready for MLB to start the season and the other needed another year in AAA to figure some stuff out.

This! 👆👆

I think the difference @Scooterfletcher here is how the two of us currently view CRod.  You seem to hold him in much higher regard than I do, and what I'm guessing most GM's do.  He's primarily a soft-tossing righty, and you better be able to throw the kitchen sink with impeccable command these days if you're going to make that work long term against MLB lineups.  Just not sure if CRod is ever going to be that guy?

I like the previous posts.   You guys are probably right.   Still, the more I am thinking about it, this may be a sell high opportunity on Patrick, even when considering the control factor.
