If you are trading someone like Perkins you are only going to get back someone like Perkins.  If you want to go that route then someone like Bleday makes some sense though he is a horrible OF defensively.  A Bleday for Perkins trade would make some sense for the A's as they currently don't have a CF and Perkins could fill that void for them cheaply.

Bleday had one good year for the A's in 2024 though he K's a lot.  Bleday is basically the type of player you would get in return for someone like Perkins.  The trade market looks to be rather bleak this off season for bats in the OF.

Don’t forget about Mitchell, this is make or break for him.

In my hopes of getting an OF who can hit, I wouldn’t tho I any of the Brewers’ defensive OF would bring that back. Maybe Perkins would interest the Red Sox as a part of a Duran trade, for example, but only as a part. I think you have more success unloading Perkins for Mitchell separately and making OF space for a real hitter.

There are plenty of OF options. But the obsession with guys who are not much with the bat but good defenders (including Lara), has created a lot of redundancy in the OF. Like, what good is Blake Perkins or Brandon Lockridge as a defensive sub for Sal Frelick, for example?

I think your idea has merit, but as you mention, the Brewers seem to be disregarding the conventional wisdom in terms of valuing those types of players, and their overall roster construction.

I think that we, Brewers-centric fans, don't realize just how spoiled we are with outfield defense, and the impact it has on our pitching. If Chourio goes down, the Brewers are willing to live without his power and hitting, but not his tough ABs, baserunning, and superior outfield defense. So they acquire Lockridge to at least duplicate (or even improve upon), those skills.

But I get it, I'm constantly looking for ways to add a stick, too. I don't like Duran, for some reason, so that doesn't appeal, but like Bleday, he seems like a reasonable trade target if the Brewers were trying to improve on the edges of their squad; maybe balance the lineup a little.

We haven't talked about CJ Abrams recently, he is probably the only higher upside SS (maybe 2B) that would be available on the market. I will admit he isn't my favorite player but the talent is high enough to be a big upgrade potentially.

We would probably have to give up Pratt/Henderson (top 100), Letson/Adams/Payne/Fischer/Dinges (near top 100), and Ortiz (SS replacement) and maybe a smaller 4th piece and that is if there isn't a bidding war. I wouldn't be completely against that because I think Abrams has some upside still if he can go to a better org.. However I think he doesn't play good enough defense or walk enough to fully fit our team structure and player mold. I wouldn't be against getting him for a year and even trading him next offseason if the price was right and Made/Pratt look ready.

I had slightly advocated for a "crazy" Abrams trade with Washinton this past summer when we clearly needed an upgrade at SS, but with us being that much closer now to guys like Pratt and Made knocking on the door - I'm guessing we're not going to want to block both the 2B and SS positions with Abrams and Turang.  I think we just run-it-back with Joey this year and hope that he returns back to more of his '24 version at the plate, instead of the guy we saw this year.

To fit the Brewers defensive philosophy you would have to move Abrams to 2B and move Turang to SS.  That improves the offense but I am not sure Abrams would move to 2B as his value would drop significantly by moving from SS to 2B.  There are also other teams out there who may need a SS and are willing to play him there.  I am also very skeptical if Abrams would even be good defensively at 2B.

The competition for Abrams would be fierce and I am not sure the Brewers would be willing to give up Pena or Made for Abrams.  I think you will need to include one of Pena or Made to get the deal done along with a few others.

Jarren Duran no matter what

You follow me around, dropping the thumb's down on my posts, but never say why.

Stop being a jerk and give me some reasons why you drop the thumb's down.  I'm genuinely curious since that is all you ever do.  I doubt you will reply to this, and if you do, it will probably just be your normal response, but seriously...

If we could get Abram’s for Pratt (as the headliner) that would be a no brainer for me. I don’t love Abram’s game (below average D and low walk rate) but our biggest problem in 26 would be immediately solved and long term we wouldn’t need Pratt anymore anyway. I would also be willing to send Peña instead of Pratt, but not sure if I would be willing to send Made.

I haven’t seen any other names at SS that feel viable to me for 26 either through trade or FA. And I think Abram’s probably doesn’t get traded this year anyway.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I drop a thumbs down on posts and don’t explain why.

Next time you might want to PM someone and request an explanation instead of publicly trying to embarrass him like you just did.

Lathund is one of the best posters on this site and has reasoned opinions that I just about always agree with and if he gave you a thumbs down on a post of yours I’d probably re-think your take.

I'm not trying to embarrass him, legit wanted to know why he leaves thumbs down on my posts on a consistent basis.  I also don't need you telling me how to conduct myself, but thanks for caring. :(

As far as me re-thinking my takes based on the fact that someone seems to always disagree with me, no thanks, my takes and thoughts are my own, I'm not going to re-think anything just because some dude on a message board likes to hand out thumbs down replies.

Thanks for your superiority.  Glad you think so much of yourself that you feel it is necessary to comment on something that really had nothing to do with you to begin with.

Blasting Lathund like you did just touched a nerve with me since he’s always been nothing but respectful in his perpetually smart and reasoned takes.

Can the three of you go have a tea party with your inferiority complexes.   Both of you,, as well as Big Red, seem to track my postings and follow with an “I’m an idiot” or worse type response.   Now it’s your turn Turbo.   Deal with it and maybe disagree more kindly in the future to fellow brewer fans.

This board sucks now. Lack of interesting discussion,  and a bunch of dudes arguing about stupid thumbs down buttons as if it even matters.

I like the idea of Josh Smith from the rangers or Stott from Philly even if we have to overpay a tad in terms of an extra middling prospect.    If we get one of these two, I think we can essentially run it back.

Trade Freddy and Perkins to Boston for Jarren Duran

Boston adds to the rotation and clears up their OF logjam. We get 3 years of a young top tier LF who checks all the Brewer boxes.

Then go big Aaron Ashby, Trevor Megill, and Issac Collins for Ketel Marte.

The Dbacks get 3 impact players for a big time talent that may be on the outside in the club house.

Sign Devin Williams 1/6 with incentives to 15 million

Durang has 3 years left and has been worth... 13.4 Bref WAR the last 2 years. I don't see them trading him for Peralta.

I also... really can't see the D-backs trading one of the best 2B(if not the best) for Ashby... who has great stuff, but is a reliever at this point, Megill who has 2 years of team control and Collins who... was a 28 year old rookie.

I think you're looking more like a Pena+Henderson+Letson type deal for Marte...

And Williams likely gets ~3/45 in FA. His underlying metrics were still elite this year. I also don't think that's good for anyone's blood pressure here in Milwaukee.
