2025 Magic Number Thread

With a 4-game lead (and counting) and the hottest team in the majors, I feel fully confident that it is once again appropriate to start up a new 2025 version of the Magic Number Thread.

And to kick off this year's edition, we have none other that St. Jerry!

There are actually several magic numbers to keep track of:

Division: 46

#1 seed: 46

Top 2 seed: 46 (CHC, LAD, and PHL all have the same magic # for us)

Top wild card spot: 43 (both NYM and SDP)

Any wild card spot: 40 (CIN)

Next team to be eliminated (currently Colorado): 11 - by this time next week, we may be moving on to the Nats or Braves.

I love this thread for 2 reasons.

1) It means the Brewers are winning again, something growing up in the 90's and early 2000s I didn't think would be possible in my lifetime.

2) random Brewer photos I have long forgot about.

I get that. But for all intents and purposes, I'm focusing on the division crown.

First off, congrats on not saying intensive purposes...

I agree that the division crown is the right one to use for the thread overall (and the basis for the uniform number pics of players). Period.

But I do also consider passing the playoff-clinching number as worthy of some celebrating - making the post-season is really the first big rung on the ladder of achievements, no matter how inevitable it currently seems.

I also like checking off the teams as we eliminate them. That might be a me thing.

I would encourage you to continue adding the other magic numbers with each update because I like the extra details.

Why anyone would discourage the “Bis” doing this is crazy….keep it up.   Very helpful.
