How many times in the last 30 years have the Packers been an underdog of more than a touchdown? I would think that is a very small number. Literally never outside of a couple very poor seasons where they were using a backup QB, or 2005 with Favre.

I'm not going to go back through all the Packer threads to see if this has already been posted.  A "deep-fake" video that should go down as a classic!

Yup. I think Gute cuts bait with both Banks and Hobbs in the off-season. The only upside to those two signings is... they don't hurt the future cap that much.

0-2 on FA signings.

Had the Packers kept Stokes... who's having a great season for the Raiders and maybe made the trade with the Chiefs for Thuney, I think we'd be good. Though... it wouldn't help if we kept playing so inconsistent and stupid at times.

This team is... really frustrating. Josh Jacobs is a nice back. He's not special... but worse, our OL is not a great run blocking OL.

I could see this team going on a 2010 type run as I don't think there's a great team in... the entire NFL(I think Detroit is close and the Philly-Det game will be interesting).

We've dealt with injuries but... who doesn't.

Jordan Love is #1 in EPA on drop backs this year.
But, we've decided we're going to play like the 49ers... who have McCaffery or the Ravens.

Come out with Watson, Golden, Wicks, Doubs, Musgraves and throw the ball. Play some tempo.

Musgraves isn't Kraft... but he can get open and he's athletic and... very hard to defend. He's been been open all year... you just had a 255 pound monster after the catch ahead of him.

Wicks can get open and he hasn't been dropping the ball.
Golden and Watson have some speed. Doubs is reliable and can get a contested ball.

And for the love of ***** please stop throwing that little WR'er screen or whatever. Rodgers would throw that when he had Adams and the WR was 10 yards off because... he was Davante Adams. But you throw out Fitzpatric and Watson and then have Golden off the LOS, they know what's coming.

One of the reasons that the defense has remained at “very good, but….” throughout the season is that the acquisition of Parsons has not improved the rest of the group the way we had hoped.

Parsons has been everything we could have hoped for. But it has not unlocked Gary, most disappointingly, in any meaningful way.

I am fairly confident that this would be a well below average defense were it not for the late training camp addition of Parsons.

Maybe. I saw this graph online this week, too, and I can't help thinking about the what ifs here.

If Parsons was not here, would opposing offenses play the Packers defense the same way they do now? I think the answer is pretty clearly no. With our limitations at corner (maybe not horrendous, but clearly not a strength), and no Parsons, I think it is plausible teams would hold the ball more and go big play hunting more often. At that point, "quick pressure" would not be as relevant, as Gary and the rest of the pass rush would have more time to get home. We saw this defense work well enough last year with similar personnel (which, in this scenario, would also include Kenny Clark still on the roster) to at least expect average overall results.

Now, this isn't to say that we shouldn't expect more pass-rushing juice out of Gary, particularly in overall pressures (I think he is on par or ahead of last year's sack pace, but he should be with Parsons getting all the attention). It should be noted here that Gary graded out quite well in the run game last year, and while I haven't seen a breakdown of his performance in that aspect this season, it stands to reason he is doing some work there since our front is not exactly full of stout run defenders. So it is not as though his contributions are nil, but if you're paying a guy in the top-15 for pass rushers, you'd like to see him be better than 29th in total pressures.

And wasn't Gary double-teamed about 22% of the time last year? Safe to figure he's not this year, so "as good as last year" doesn't cut it.

Even worse when you realize that at least half of Gary's sacks are due to Parsons looping behind the QB and pushing him up to the LOS and running into Gary (who got nowhere on the pass rush)

Here is an example of why.  Doubs was tackled at the red circle.

I was literally yelling at the tv, "run straight ahead, THEN make a move" These guys just stand there for a beat and run sideways.

Wyatt likely has ankle ligament damage and is likely done for the year.  DT was the one position that I really wanted them to add a body at the trade deadline.  Do NFL players ever get bought out at the deadline, or does the potential free agent draft pick comp eliminate that?

Brinson and Stackhouse are going to need to step up big time.

It’s kind of annoying that when we finally have a season where all the tiebreakers would be lining up our way (3-0 division record), we have an actual tie on our record, so the tiebreakers are moot.

Packers pick up NT Jordan Riley and claim NT Quinton Bohanna off waivers this week.

I wonder if they are going to use Wooden more at Wyatt's DT position and want more backups at NT (especially in obvious run scenarios)?  That would reserve Brooks for pass rush snaps and "hide" him more on rushing downs.

Brinson has shown some glimmers of hope this year, too.

But I can't see them carrying this many NTs on the team for long.

Considering how little Stackhouse has shown, he should get thrown into the same mix as Riley and Bohanna and may the best man win.  Considering the amount of bodies they already have at DE, without even counting Cox, I don't think they will stick with 6 DTs very long.

I agree part of this is just not wanting to finish the season with 2 undersized guys in Wooden and Brooks and 2 rookies, a 6th round pick and UDFA. But the other part is they have 2 of 3 key games against the Bears who love to run. At some point if they are gashing with the run game you want big immovable pluggers to stick in there and force them out of it.

Sounds like it also the sequence, Riley was signed off the Giants practice squad so needs to be kept for 3 weeks and maybe they just like the Seattle guy better so had to claim him.

Brinson has been REALLY good for a guy you expected to sit and learn all year. You lost Clark and Wyatt and he's been a good pass rusher. Primarily in setting up Parsons with his stunts, but... just really good getting after the QB and struggles losing his gap at times, but when he plays run 1st, he can be stout.

I would not consider Brinson a NT(or the 4-3 equivalent 1 tech like Stackhouse or Slaton was). He's versatile and can do both. Hopefully, he'll keep building off the late season opportunities...

He has a chance to be a big hit as a 6th.

Riley and Bohanna both have a chance to put good snaps on tape. Doesn't matter how long they'll be here, but the Packers defense is so good in pursuit, they just need to play their gap and not get moved off it. They don't need to penetrate and get into the backfield, just give us a few snaps where you don't get washed out and give the Bears a cutback lane.

I think it's safe to say that Gute struck out on both off-season signings.

I MIGHT give Banks another year as he's played better since this. Hobbs, I don't see any reason to give him more time.

We're REALLY gonna need to hope Morgan is the guy at LT. I would imagine we go OL/CB heavy.

I can't imagine these corners if not for the front 7.

Assuming we cut Jenkins and the cap goes up as expected, we're ~50M under... but that money is gonna be eaten up even if the Cap keeps jumping 10% a year.

Belton has been playing well... and Sean Rhyan has played far better at Center than I thought when Jenkins went down.

Not a whole lot available on the FA market(Asante Samuel Jr would have been nice). Tyler LInderbaum would be... REALLY aggressive and maxing out this 2-3 year window.

Obviously not definitive, but based on the Bears game, it looks like it is "primarily" Brooks/Brinson at 3-technique and Wooden/Phillips at nose tackle.

Also, since Bo Melton has played 56 snaps at wide receiver and 0 snaps as a defensive back this season, can the Packers just go back to listing him as a WR?
