I am not wildly confident in holding off Philly. The current lead makes it more likely than not, obviously, but it’s not something I’d be wagering a heavy bet on.

Does it really matter? 1/2 seeds get a bye... that's all I really care about.

I realize the 1 seed will get them homefield advantage, but have they really played better at home this season than away?

Well, they are 20 games over .500 at home this year and 13 over on the road, so .. yes.

Still a very good team home or away, but like most teams, a higher winning percentage at home.

Depends who you ask here. I would say it matters, but the difference between the 1 and 2 is massively small compared to the difference between the 2 and 3.

In no way will this team have positive mojo if they end up as the 2. That means they are struggling to the wire and going to be an easy out imo. That's why I'm for keeping guys in the lineup and going hard to the wire unless guys are banged up.

A higher seed means you play opponents with lesser records.

But Philadelphia is 23 games over 500 at home and 1 on the road...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Not necessarily. If the 6 beat the 3 and you’re the 1, you’re still getting the 4/5.

I mean you guys don’t have to convince me that it would be better to be the #1. We need to start playing better baseball to make that happen.

This feels like a tyranny of small differences topic. There is a theoretical difference between being the one seed and the two seed. Just not sure the theory is all that significant. If someone would rather have the one, I get it. I don't care enough to get worked up about it. Finishing with the 3 (or 4), OTOH, would be annoying.

To me, it all feels like the NCAAT. Undoubtedly, I'd rather be an 11-seed than a 9. Playing a 6 and 3 (potentially) is better than playing an 8 and a 1.

Baseball is a weird game. You can hit the ball hard all over the park like tonight, but right at people. Then other games dink and dunk and find holes.  Just don’t get swept tomorrow.

And we lose. Smoked the ball a lot, but not much to show for it.

Yeah, I thought the offense was much better tonight. Needed to put together one more inning.

Pitching had one blow-up inning again, and that's all it takes against the Rangers, I guess. Man, they can get guys out. Every year, there's always one team that seems to get blazing hit to close the season. Texas might be that club.

The nice part of having a magic number of 11 with 16 to go is you can afford to drop a road series against a tough opponent. Hopefully, that's all it is. Get a win tomorrow plus the off day, and that'll feel fine, especially if we can roll up a 4-2 home stand (or better) against mediocre competition.

Needed some better batted ball luck. Some very hard hit outs throughout the game. Looked like it should have been enough to get a win with a Patrick spot start.

Avoid the sweep tomorrow and hope the Mets show up in at least one of their remaining two games with the Phillies this week.
