Ugh, Gray again?  We do terribly against Gray!

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Taijuan Walker starts for Phillies at Arizona. Walker has been mostly ineffective since the all star break and Diamondbacks are only 2 GB for final Wild Card.

Lodolo throws for Cincinnati against Cubs. Reds have a good rotation.

It’s time the cubs give up the ghost and we don’t really need to prolong this any more after this weekend.    It would be nice to give Yelich some time off and Contreras also next week

Will be a close finish it seems with us and Philly. We are in STL and SD and then close against a good Reds rotation at home.

Phi gets the DBacks then a couple of cupcakes in the fish and the twins who will be playing rookies.

Hang onto your boots friends. Would be awesome to get out of the Cardinals series still up 3 games on PHI!.

Doing no research at all I’m assuming we lead the league in wins when we don’t hit home runs.   And I assume it’s by a large margin.     Also I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s one of the bigger totals in last so many years

They roughed him up pretty good in June and last Saturday he gave up 2 runs in only 5 innings.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Informal poll...would you rather have the 1 seed and guys going hard until the end, or the 2 seed with a well rested team. I know which I would pick.

I believe we'll clinch on Sunday.

1 seed is not a sure thing, but it's close. I don't think people are considering how hard it is for Philly pick up 4 games with 9 left. There's a mental barrier there where 4 games doesn't sound like a lot in baseball, but it is when it's a 9-game season.

Yep, absent the Phillies running the table, they're not making up 4 games with no head to heads left - and that probably wont be enough

How many days off do we have not playing the wild card?    I seriously doubt we are going to burn any pitchers trying to go for number one seed.   Especially when there isn’t a significant difference between one or two

i bet you see Yelich sitting for a little bit once we clinch the division.     Maybe not all the games but a few of them.

I hope you are right.     That’s a couple of wins for us and a couple of losses for cubs.   My guess is it goes into padres series needing a game or two to finish it

They’ll have a week with no games at the end of the season. I don’t want to risk injury or ride anybody who really needs a break, but I’m not overly concerned about rest with no WC round to play.

Our next win guarantees a home series in the playoffs (i,e, at least the 4-seed). We should clinch at least the division, but ...

We're throwing starter #4 and two spot starters in this series, followed by a trip out west to a likely playoff team in SD, followed by a Reds team that very well might still be in the race by next Friday. We'll likely only have 3 starts of those 9 from our big 3. It isn't hard to imagine things getting a little too interesting. It'd be good to get some help from the D-backs and Reds this weekend

Speaking of the SD series, the Dads do still have a shot at the division, but they're 3 back and the Dodgers have the tiebreak, That won't be decided before our series, but they have a decent shot at sewing up at least a wild card this weekend (3 against CWS).

Yahtzee.

That said, They DO end with Miami & Minny. It might be time for some old cracker barrel philosophy that some of our announcers like to use when WE play also-rans late in the year, like "They have nothing to lose, they're playing guys who have something to prove, they're loose, etc, etc, etc."

Too early to say, but if the Reds are out of it by next weekend they may pull the plug on SP's who might otherwise work.

Sonny Skies will turn Gray

AS

Miz brings the Mizz-e-ray in Miss-our-ay!

What'll be interesting to me tonight is Misiorowski as he continues down the developmental path. He dominated STL the first time he saw him, then the 2nd time they hit him hard. Now it's sort of the "I know that you know that I know that you know......" start.

Need to have the discipline & woodpecker mentality vs Gray.

Announcers do,say things like that, but it’s worth noting that the Brewers are 15-0 since August 1 against the only teams they have played that were not in playoff contention when the Brewers played them.  So, the Phillies going 6-0 in those home games is not hard to imagine if they are going all out to win.

The Brewers will probably have to win some games, maybe as many as 4 or 5, to knock off the 6 games still left in the magic number to top the Phillies.

I watched the last out of the reds game last night and it’s so funny.   I don’t think pitchers know how to react after a complete game.   It’s so foreign to them

On the subject of teams making up a lot of ground in a short time, who has noticed the Guardians, who trailed the Tigers by 11 games on September 4, winning 9 out of 10 to pick up 4.5 games.

Then following that up with a  3 game sweep over the Tigers to cut the lead to 3.5 games. They still have another series with the Tigers next week.
