I would guess the Projected Total Allocations number of $164.8M is what Spotrac is using to refer to the Brewers CBT 40 Man year end payroll which Cot's Contracts has at $160.1M for last year and $162.8M for 2024.

Cot's has the Brewers projected for a $115.8M Opening Day 26 Man payroll this year compared to $108M last year and $104.3M in 2024.

My personal read on the situation is that Peralta and Megill being dealt are coin flips. Payroll doesn't dictate that they have to be moved, but if the Brewers get an offer they like they will take it.

I would doubt if we move Contreras because by all accounts Quero's throwing (which was a foundational aspect of his profile) has not returned to form post shoulder surgery. I'm more inclined to believe the Brewers will acquire another catcher to be the backup so that Jeferson can get everyday reps in Nashville.

I think there has to be a plan to get a CF, I doubt we go into the year with a combo of Perk/Mitchell/Lockridge in CF. It wouldn't be the worst situation but if the club is serious about Zarpa and Ashby stretching out to at least have a chance to be starters I would think trading Freddy for an OF makes to much sense.

I agree with you. I think our CF position has a really low floor.

however… they’ve shown a willingness (even if it was out of necessity) to play Frelick and Chourio in CF. Maybe Bauers is the answer to our outfield issues when Mitchell inevitably gets hurt.

It appears that everyone on this site is pretty sure that Mitchell is going to get hurt this season at some point.  It will either happen in spring training, regular season, or anytime between now and the day players report.

So many people here saying the same thing, over and over, it almost leads one to believe that it is a real thing...

I guess I'm not the only one here that mentions that as a possibility after all @BrewerFan.

I mean he gets hurt every year its a guarantee sucks because I always thought he had potential to be a solid player

I think he has diabetes i wonder if its correlated at all to why he always gets injured

Hoping you are correct regarding CF. I maintain the stance that they must upgrade the offensive output from either SS or CF. That does not include gambling on Mitchell being a relevant factor. Personally, I'm fine with keeping Ortiz' elite defense and upgrading Perkins dismal offense in exchange for perhaps lesser defense in CF. Who is available, how could they be acquired? I don't know all the possibilities. A recent "Locked On Brewers" episode suggested a trade involving Perralta  / Jarren Duran. Taking away pitching to upgrade CF is a wash in my mind. They would be dealing from a strength and gambling that Woody remains healthy and effective, and that Mis is ready to be a #2 (I don't think he is).

A status quo approach at both positions equals an admission from management that they are just an MLB version of the patsy teams the Harlem Globetrotters or Savannah Bananas play to showcase the "stars".

What year did the Washington Generals win the most games during the basketball season? Or win their division three straight times or five out of eight years?

There are like three or four tiers of competitiveness between the status quo Brewers (who have won the 2nd most games in MLB over the last three seasons) and the actual patsy teams in MLB like the Rockies, White Sox, and Pirates (or the Brewers of circa 1984-2004).

Sure, there are different tiers of patsies. The Brewers' front office usually at least tries to be competitive enough to sell loads of merch and tickets while hoping for the planet to align where they actually win a WS. That's my point. To achieve that "usually trying" merit this offseason means they upgrade either SS or CF in my view.

But let's not kid ourselves, the big market teams are all that matter to MLB INC. Teams like the Brewers are viewed simply as fodder for the "real teams" to play.

I'm not arguing they shouldn't try to upgrade either of those positions, but they were literally the best team in the regular season. Once you're at 95-100 wins "hoping for the planets to align" is pretty much describing the postseason.

They have 5 guys who can play CF they don't have a real hitter at 1B or LF.

The defense was never the problem last year, it was the hitting.

Can they trade Woodruff?

Hopefully?

My understanding is that the player cannot be traded before June 15th unless they consent.
