My guess is they still practice squad McCord and keep Taylor, preferring the vast magnitude of actual real game experience. Love is fairly likely to miss a week or two at least. Maybe the chance to cut him at just the loss of $700k guarantees turns the tide though.

In the overreactions category, Marshawn Lloyd looks pretty bad. 

Smack looks like the real deal and the kicker I've wanted for years. Still have to see what he does kicking a 43-yarder to win the game, or hitting 50 in January.

I'd be shocked if Hadden is cut.  He is showing promise in the slot to backup Bullard, he can play outside CB, and we don't have a ton of depth.

I've been debating McCord vs Taylor... Taylor looks very uncomfortable in the pocket and is throwing balls all over the place (probably related).  Neither he nor McCord have had great OL play in front of them, but McCord seems to know where he needs to go with the ball when stressed.  I think if they really want more experience, it won't be Taylor.  This weekend will be interesting for both of them. 

Regarding Lloyd, he goes down pretty quick on contact, but he hasn't had many carries and his OL hasn't done him any favors when he does get them. The speed is evident, but I think it will take some time in live play to get the vision back.

LaFluer should give McCord a long look on Friday. I still think its Taylor. its hard to judge QB performance when they don't have the #1 OL on the field.

53 main predictions:

QB: It's all about Taylor.  He has not looked good and it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't the backup QB - whether they go with McCord or grab someone else.  McCord reminds me of Matt Flynn a bit; not uber dynamic but knows where the ball needs to go. 

RB: No surprises.  Pierre Strong looked good, but not good enough to make the 53 man.

WR: Nayor or Sturdivant - hope we can keep both. Probably one makes the 54 man.

TE: Depth is very thin. I'd guess they grab a waiver or trade someone and stash Dabney in the PS. 

OL: Top 9-10 seems to be set, but some injuries make us thin at T.  I see Jennings being #10 a lot, but he seems like a lower end version of Burton or Monk.  I'd rather keep 9, stash Getsky/Wade in the PS and not worry if we lose Jennings. 

DL: Lots of depth this year. Wouldn't surprise me to see a Brooks trade (to shore up another area) or just standing pat and putting Campbell on the PS.  

EDGE: We have depth with potential, but without game production... so the big question is if we just move forward as is or go trade for Sweat or other player that has more experience. 

LB: Pretty much set in stone since the beginning of TC. No changes.

CB: Main concern is that Jackson hasn't had any field time, so do we just keep him because he is a draft pick? Hadden reaching out and grabbing the backup Slot CB. 

S: I think we keep more CB (and perhaps a ST WR?) and thus only 4 safeties this year.  Those 4 are obvious. 

ST: No need to talk Smack here, but it looks like Orzech starts the season on PUP.  If all goes well in the first 4 games with Adomitis, why would they change for a minimally different player like Orzech? Adomitis is 3 years younger.

I think I asked this same question last year.  What are all you experts thinking of the team this year?  I have had zero time to follow what's been going on in camp.  Once I watch a few games I can make my own assessment but right now I'm in the dark.  So let's hear how you think this team is and how the season will go.

I think this could be a breakout-offensive year for Love.  He has plenty of talent at the skill positions (save for depth at TE)... but it will all hinge on OL play.  The key to beating Love is pressuring him, as with many QBs, but the difference is pretty stark.  If the OL is strong (and MLF doesn't run the ball 50% of the time), I think we have a good chance at 4000 yards and 35 TDs 

I like how the defense is coming together... better than last year, IMO.  Obviously getting a healthy Parsons back, is the key, but they will be a top 5 defense if he does. CB concerns have lessened with Cisse and Hadden looking strong, but it still the team's weak spot. Edge without Parson is a little concerning with a lack of any on field performance, but for 5 games I think we can survive.

Winning the NFC North should be achievable.  If everything clicks, the SB isn't out of the question. I'd say they are in the top 8 teams overall.

Thank you for the breakdown.  Love to hear the positivity out there.  I too think Love should have a very good year and I honestly think there is something really good there with Golden.  I'm hoping for a big step forward from him.  And I agree, I think it's time to open it up a little more with Love.

Kinda the same I've felt the last two seasons. Provided no major injury to Love, a floor of 8 wins and a ceiling of 13 and being on either end just wouldn't be a big surprise to me. There's enough talent to believe they can be in the Super Bowl, but enough questions about depth and health to think they're just outside of the playoffs looking in. If you said I had to give a figure, 11-6.

And truthfully, I don't think they're a team that can muscle their way to a title from the Wild Card simply because MLF is an extremely bad game manager. I think they'd have to establish themselves as a front runner.

They should have beaten the Bears in the playoffs and they were missing arguably three of their top 5 -6 guys (Tom, Parsons, Kraft).  I think if those three are healthy they have as good a chance anyone last year to beat Seattle. I don't see anyone running away with the league this year. If health is in their favor they will be tough to beat.

I agree , the problem is you can probably look at half the teams in the NFC and say “if things go right, this could be our year”.

I don’t see Seattle as vastly superior to anyone. They are the team things went right for last season.

The Rams are very clearly the paper favorite. It's par for the course for the big favorite to have a mediocre season, but I'd say they are the most favored team the NFC has seen in a while.

Part of the reason last year's injuries sucked so much was exactly that. There was no runaway team, it was Seattle, and Sam Darnold having his moment are odds I want every year.

Yeah this just isn't very comforting to me. You could say the Packers should have won the playoff game they lost like 10 times in the last 20 years. Even with Kraft out, before Wyatt and Parsons and Tom and Watson, you can rationally say they were pushing to be the favorite in the NFC. The Denver game was the cliff drop moment of the season. They went from firmly in control, up 11 with possession in the 2nd half, to spiraling the moment Watson left the game and never recovered. But that happens to somebody every year.

And this is probably my biggest criticism of MLF. He isn’t a rally the troops, leader of men type guy. He’s an X’s and O’s football guy who is able to look the part when things are going right.

When things start to go wrong, whether it be losing 5 straight games down the stretch last year or blowing a 21-3 lead in Chicago, he doesn’t seem to ever be able to figure out how to keep things from completely spiraling out of control.

TLDR he's a coordinator and not a HC. We are just gonna take 10 years to learn it, I guess.

Sturdivant or Neyor: If you can only keep one and will lose the other... which do you pick? 

Hopefully we can keep both as they seem like high-end development candidates (i.e high RAS, poor production, need development on routes).

Not sure how much fire there is to the Josh Sweat smoke, but if they land him, my prognosis of the 2026 Packers is far improved from what I see at the moment.

It’s hard to imagine a better rotation of pass rushers in the NFL down the stretch this year than a healthy Micah again, Sweat, an improved LVN, and Sorrell.

Josh Jacobs formally charged with two misdemeanors today. I'm guessing he will be getting a one game suspension from the NFL under the personal conduct policy. If he is suspended I hope it's right away as his first court appearance isn't until November.
