Not only does he pitch every day but multiple inning outings to boot.

He threw Thursday (eleven pitches). Had a day off. Threw Saturday. Had a day off. Threw today.

I agree that when you get further into the season you'll want to monitor him, especially since they're loaded with LH options on the forty-man roster. I just think it's a little early to be jumping on Murphy for this only four games in.

Broadly true, but it is consistent with Murphy's Ashby usage last year, so I get the concern. The tendency to extrapolate Ashby's usage rate this week (and down the stretch last year) out to all of 2026 is probably misguided, but I get where it's coming from.

If that (the heavy usage) happens again, sure. I'd just give it more than four games in.

From the left side Ya got Zerpa, Koenig, Hall. Zastryzny. Gasser & Drohan may stay stretched out; may not. So I agree there isn't much excuse to overwork him.

If the starters can cross that magic line from going around five innings to going six more consistently I think it would be huge in this regard.

Murphy: “Mitchell is a reverse split lefty.”

Mitchell career vs RHP: 254/.340/.447/.788

Vs LHP: .266/.324/.359/.683

What the heck are you talking about, man?

That’s not what Murphy said. He called the pitcher a reverse splits lefty

Okay, well that’s also not true. Seymour doesn’t have a history of reverse splits either in the minors or MLB.

Ashby pitching in a 14-2 game is why we should be worried about Murphy.

Ashby started warming up top of four when the score was 4-1, then the Brewers scored two runs in the bottom half to make it 6-1.

I’d imagine Murphy brought Ashby in because he was already warmed up anyway.

The score ended up 14-2, but Murphy didn’t pitch Ashby in a 14-2 game.
