Remember when we traded Williams for Durbin and Cortes and Cortes was so bad we felt the need to trade him along with a prospect to San Diego for Lockridge and then to compound it all we actually think Lockridge is good and play him way too much?

Hopefully Chourio returns and you never see him again

Lockridge has this weird cult following of people who think he’s good.

His career OPS is south of .600. That’s worse than Joey Ortiz, by a lot.

If we DFA’ed Lockridge tomorrow the interest would be sparse. He’s ahead of Perkins only because Perkins is actually in fact somehow worse.

Chourio  was here last year and the rest of our outfield was actually decent last year and I still saw him way too much.

The Brewers having a terrible series and getting swept by the Nationals in these ugly "City" Connect uniforms is certainly not going to help the already negative fan opinion of these jerseys

Doesn't help that we get spring training fluff pieces like this.

This is a banged up group, so I'm not surprised by the start. In some ways, being 8-7 feels about right. Right now, everyone in baseball, save for about three teams, is clustered somewhere between 6-10 and 9-6. This is all just fact-gathering right now.

The fact that I have gathered is pretty simple. We need more trustworthy high-leverage arms and for our good hitters to be healthy.

I am fully expecting to see Williams up for Matos/Perkins/Lockridge at some point, and I don't know if Ortiz is long for the roster either. Maybe we also see some pitching guys come up too. I'd imagine Logan Henderson is back. We'll see, but the one constant during every April losing streak is a lot of fan complaints over a roster that resembles the July-August roster as much as I resemble Mike Trout.

This was a really rough series. It is easy to look at the team and believe it is due for a letdown year after three straight division titles. SS and 3B are black holes offensively, and I don't see things getting any better with the roster as presently constructed. Chourio and Vaughn can't get back fast enough.

Even though the Brewers are 8-7 there are some pretty concerning areas that aren't related to Chourio/Vaughn being injured.

1. The left side of the infield looks really bad and Williams and Pratt have given little reason to believe they can help fix that in the near future.

2. The bullpen is a mess. Megill, Uribe, and Zerpa have all seen their stuff drop off considerably compared to last year. Koenig is hurt.

3. The OF depth looks to be a problem. Even when Chourio returns, they don't look like they can absorb Mitchell getting injured.

Lockridge being Vinny Capra 2.0 is not a surprising development. Guy absolutely is not an everyday player. It's questionable if he is even a big leaguer. Still baffles me how SD got a somewhat interesting lotto ticket in Quintana for him.

DFA Ortiz enough is enough. This team is some kind of putrid right now.

In the 80s he would have been awesome with his glove work. See Ozzie Smith. These days he's a killer.

We need to temper our expectations about what these two can bring to the table. Vaughn is not going to make a difference and Chourio can't carry the team alone, far from it. Hitters ahead of Chourio may see better pitches to hit but that's about it.

The problem is it's like over half our offense.  Ortiz, Rengifo, Lockridge, Matos, Perkins, Frelick, Hamilton is only good if he walks like 25% of the time which he won't do all year.  Vaughn and Chourio can only do so much and that's if Chourio can actually take another step and if Vaughn himself wasn't a fluke last year.

The pitching is in worse shape than the offense. Score 6 last year and it was a win

Jett and Pratt actually have talent. The guys the Brewers are trotting out everyday have a large sample of being cheeks. It's worth a shot. It quite literally could not be worse.
