If you go through this relatively short thread post by post and mark the ones that are really negative you will see who’s actually doing the cherry picking.

But, if you consider a fan, getting frustrated when an event relief pitcher can’t get the ball over the plate as being too negative, then I guess it was negative.

I consider a lot of those posts the message board equivalent of someone at the game saying “ D**n it Megill, get the ball over the plate”

And I consider the people arguing that this is actually mostly positive as the same people telling anyone within shouting distance how much this team sucks when it's April. But that's the beauty of it, we both come to our own conclusions.

Is this was it has come down to?

People in the IGT thread arguing whether or not the thread is positive or negative?

The IGT thread is always dictated by what is going on in the game at any given time.  Isn't that the point?

We had a bad start, hence the negative posts, then we put up a 5 spot, which changed the tone of posting, then the bullpen came in and made things dicey, which lead to some more negative posts.

It's how this works.

I think maybe the IGT threads just aren't cut out for everyone...

It is rarely unicorns and rainbows here during any given game, if that is what you are looking for, this ain't the place for you.  lol

I guess I have more tolerance for passionate fans expressing frustration.

Which is wonderful but a fan expressing frustration is certainly not positive energy?

Which brings me back to the original comment I made that the thread had a negative tone to it, which was surprising given the outcome of the game.

If you think fans being angtsy and expressing frustration is positive energy then I acknowledge your opinion and we can move on from it.

I've always thought knee-jerk reactions typed out on a fan board are quite a different animal than, say, showing frustration in the moment--say, watching the game at a bar, or at home, or in person at the stadium. But it's an internet message board. It takes all kinds.

And in case you're wondering, the 'knee-jerk reaction' comment should make it clear that I'm not referring to you. You're a fan that seems more comfortable walking on the cloudy side of the street, for whatever reason. But you do your homework, you're quite knowledgeable---you're GOOD at it. It's not for me, but if everyone on here was like me---or you---it wouldn't be such a fun place to visit.

The difference between someone simply saying "This team/player sucks" & explaining why he/she thinks they suck---and proposing alternatives--- is a large one. I'll take the latter.

You reminded me of something that happened maybe 2-3 years ago. I told the story before. It was a weekday afternoon game, I wasn't able to watch, and for some reason I can't recall had no access to a radio broadcast either. I decided to go on Brewerfan & check the IGT to see how it was going. At the time the game was over or almost over. I scrolled through 3-4 pages & decided by the tone of the thread that it was a close game but sounds like we're trailing. I don't remember the exact score but it turns out the Brewers won something like 7-2.

I was once a heavy participant in another fan board & it was the same---the IGT was actually referred to as "the cesspool". But it takes all kinds. Probably important to remember that behind the keyboard we're all people. Some of us maybe even normal😛.

I think it is acknowledged on this board by most that the in-game threads are the most toxic place here and it is a proceed with caution type of situation to go through them...

I truly wasn't trying to stir anything up by commenting on it. The Brewers have struggled as of late and I thought I'd come home to an in-game thread that was more of a sigh of relief than anything else with the pitching performance from the starter plus a couple of timely hits by some guys that have been struggling, etc. That wasn't how I read through it and I was simply mentioning I was surprised.

Absolutely true.

I sometimes comment in the IGT before the game, oftentimes after. Hardly ever while the game is going on. One of the best posters on this entire board seems to have shunned it for whatever reason.

Thing is, if I'm pissed off in the moment, w/o voice recognition I don't think I could type fast enough before the emotion subsides😄.
