would have liked to see him get some consistent ABs in AAA before the recall. Kind of disappointing, but I guess it keeps them from having to DFA someone.

This resolves concerns about playing time for Lara.

Not surprised that Frelick went to IL.

I was half expecting to hear that Contreras would be going after the incident in the 10th inning last night. I don’t expect him to be in the lineup today.

Another tough pitching matchup for the slumping Brewers offense.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be without their starting right fielder for a while.

Sal Frelick was put on the 10-day injured list Saturday by the Brewers due to a strained right (throwing) shoulder. Outfielder Blake Perkins was called up from Triple-A Nashville.

Frelick was injured during Friday's 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins. In the top of the fourth inning, Frelick made a throw from right field toward second base on a double by Otto Lopez that took several bounces to get there, not a throw you would expect from the 2024 Gold Glove winner. Manager Pat Murphy said after the game that Frelick had an issue with the should earlier in the season.

He remained in on defense, but was replaced the next inning by rookie Luis Lara.

Frelick has struggled offensively this season after being in contention for a batting title at the end of last year. He currently has a slash line of .236/.301/.330 with four homers and 34 RBIs, with six steals. Last season's slash line was .288/.351/.405.

Perkins is a terrific defender, but has not been able to get going offensively, which led to him not originally making the Opening Day roster. He has only been called up due to injuries, with this being the third time. Perkins has a .157/.250/.258 slash line in 53 games with one homer and 11 RBIs.

That throw was poor.  I made the comment at the time something is wrong with his arm.  I feel like most of his throws this year are a downgrade from last year.  I dont have any stars on that, but the eye test said he's had some sort of issue all year.

I really don't get the Perkins "needs time to figure it out".  He was killing the ball when he went down.  His June numbers:

.320/.414/.560

Yes that is only in 29 PAs. But he stopped being the unplayable player he was in April and May.

Would have rather seen Black recalled.

They wanted a better defender and a right handed hitter I suspect.

Lara is going to get almost all the playing time anyway.

For my money Black would be a good callup if Yelich went on the IL as they both fit the same role/profile. I suppose you could've recalled Black, split him up with Vaughn at 1B & thrown Bauers back in the OF, but this should give Lara a nice run of PT. Plus they're always going to put versatility & defense on a higher plain than many others do.

Perhaps its the ~.100 BA he carried for most of the season or the .222 BA with no XBH in Nashville thats skewing my perception of how fixed he clearly is

I sure hope so, but Murphy likes/loves Perkins, so that is not set in stone.

Murphs love for Perk didn’t stop him from being the last guy on the bench for the last few weeks and then being sent down in favor of Lara.

I’m not saying he will never play since the Brewers use everybody but Mitchell has broken out and is now pretty much an every day player and Lara is a switch hitter.

Circumstances have changed

Pretty sure Frelick has been dealing with this for awhile now and it has finally gotten to a point where he can't play with the pain anymore.  There wasn't anything to see that would cause concern on the throw yesterday.  Which says to me that this has been an issue for awhile now and Frelick has just been playing through it.
