Sanchez has to be the most underappreciated backup catcher in MLB. I see him get grief from Brewers fandom all over the internet when he has a 130 wRC+ and 1 fWAR in just under 200 PA. There's an argument he should actually be playing more with Contreras having a down year with the bat.

It's just that his challenge game is putrid...

In the last 6 games, Joey has started one time, August 3rd against the Pirates.

Going back to when Hamilton came off the IL:

7/24 - Joey started at SS - Hamilton at 3B

7/25 - No Joey

7/26 - Joey started

7/27 - Joey started

7/28 - No Joey

7/29 - No Joey

7/31 - No Joey

8/1 -Joey started

8/2 - No Joey

8/3 - Joey started

8/4 - No Joey

8/5 - No Joey

8/6 - No Joey

8/7 - No Joey

So since Hamilton was activated 14 games ago, Joey has been on the bench 9 games, played SS once, and 3B 4 times.

Hamilton has started at 3B - 10 of 14 games.

Joey has started 2 times in the last 10 games...

This is NO platoon.

This is a disgrace!

It quite literally is a platoon. They just haven't faced many LHP since Hamilton came off the IL. In the 13 games the Brewers have played since Hamilton came off the IL, they have faced one LHSP (Freeland) and one LHP opener (Suter). Ortiz started both of those games at 3B.

I think people get a little too worked up about the ABS stuff with Sánchez.

I agree with you though.

How did Joey hit right handed pitchers when Hamilton was on the IL?

What were his splits during that time only?

I'm not buying the platoon thing, it's just too strange that he has played only 5 times in the last 14 games, and only twice the last 10 games.

Even for Pancakes, this is just bizarre to take one of, if not THE hottest hitter from your line-up this often.

You're trying to argue something I'm not saying. I responded directly to you saying it's not a platoon. It is a platoon. This is literally what platooning is. There's a reason RHH are called the short side of the platoon because there are a lot fewer LHP than RHP.

Wasn't there a perfect opportunity for him to come in late in the game against a tough lefty? Would have made perfect sense as a defensive replacement too.

The part about keeping him away from certain types of repertoire, OK. Like I said, there's always a reason hiding behind "Murphy doesn't know what he's doing". I agree 100% about strengthening the defense late w/a lead though.

Is this Ortiz situation like the hatteberg at first situation

do we need to trade Hamilton

Milwaukee Brewers utility infielder David Hamilton plays third base, shortstop, and second base. Also the fastest runner on the Brewers but definitely slumping the past month.

I am fully on board with you calling Ortiz "Pena" and confusing everybody (x2!) here into a hysteria because they missed your comment here and don't get the reference.

Great movie.

It really is starkly different to be in the AL, and especially if you're in the AL Central or West. The Twins are 57-59 and a half game out of the WC and 3 out of the division. For comparison, they'd be tied with the Reds (4 games back of the WC with 4 teams ahead of them and 15.5 back in the division).

Twins are a decent-ish team offensively, but give up a lot of runs (-35 in run differential). Let's get this offense in gear, shall we?

I guess I can see giving Vaughn a night off but he's been one of the few guys that's contributed something pretty much every night for the last week.

He seems to be someone not necessarily well suited to pinch hit as he seems to get better as the game goes on and he sees more pitches. would be curious to know his batting average per at bat in a game.

I'm not trying to argue anything.  What were Joey's splits while Bunty was on the IL?

I just want to know if what Pancakes is doing makes any sense,,,

I know what a platoon is, and its purpose.   I'd like to be able to see what Murphy is actually seeing, or if he is just making excuses to get his man-crush in the game as often as possible.

Even though it’s more aesthetics than anything seeing Yelich bat lower in lineup just makes it look a lot better

Agreed, I'd feel even better if he was 7 or 8, but it's a start!

No idea

2026

Ortiz

RHP: .242 AVG, .308 OBP, .684 OPS (165 AB)

LHP: .238 AVG, .304 OBP, .626 OPS (84 AB)

2025

RHP: .206 AVG, .259 OBP, .537 OPS (335 AB)

LHP: .289 AVG, .319 OBP, .734 OPS (135 AB)

Big splits in 2025 for Ortiz this year not so much. Hamilton rarely faces LHP in his career

Joey is better defensive player though.

This is exactly why Joey in the platoon makes zero sense.

I'll leave it up to the stat guys to find out what his splits were while Hamilton was on the IL, those are the stats that would really cement whether it's a good idea for Joey to sit so much.
