No, May did not get help at times today from his defense (which he absolutely got in his Brewer debut).

Murphy has managed so poorly today that I genuinely sincerely wonder if he felt fine taking one on the chin today as long as he could avoid using any leverage relievers before the Cubs series. 

Other than going a hitter or two too long with May IMO he used the BP the same he would've in any other game where they fell behind by 2-3 runs in the middle innings, regardless of who the next opponent was. 

I suppose you could've gone with Hall in the 5th, but the only LHH coming up in the next few was Nimmo & he has reverse splits.

The Braves just put up a 6-game winning streak while we went 4-2. I'm not really sure what else the Brewers can do. If they continue to rack up wins against their brutal schedule, all credit to them. In the same stretch you mentioned, we picked up ground on the Dodgers, a team we do own the tiebreaker over. It's going to be very, very hard for BOTH of those teams to pass us. It might happen, but if it does, I'm not going to look back at this week and say "that week we won two series against the Mets and Rangers was where it all went wrong."

It's doubtful the Crew would re-sign May to be a #4-5, but if he continues to pitch like he has, it will be an easy decision to let him go at the end of the year. On another note, the Crew has to get Turang going! He hit only .183 in Sept. with 31 Ks. He often takes the first strike then continues to chase the high fastball and the inside slider with two strikes. He's lost 15 pts on his BA and OBP since Sept 1st.  Despite Pancake's sometimes questionable pitching decisions, their lack of power, and occasional frustrating offense, I'd still rather be in their position than any other team in baseball.

One thing I’ve taken from this deadline —

next year, if we do nothing. It’s okay. It really is okay if we just stick with who we got. 

I really hope May can figure it out and be a guy for us in September, but chances are, this isn’t going to be a needle mover at all from what we would have gotten from Sproat, Coleman or Gordon.
