Question for those that are criticizing the trades...Would Ragsdale and Frias have helped THIS years team? Of course not. People here fall way to in love with prospects. That's all they are with a slim chance of ever playing in the big leagues. I have always been a "win now" guy, regardless of sport, so if it means trading the future to acquire some win now players, even if it doesn't end up working, it's still the right move. I'd rather they try and fail then not to try at all. I mean Micah Parsons got hurt last year but would anyone rather have the two 1st round picks back? I imagine there are some ppl that hated giving up that much 🤨, but it was a win now move, regardless of how it ever ends up working out, it was the right move 100%.

Sorry, to bluntly answer this, I just can’t take an MLB philosophy for a small market team of “all-in, all the time” seriously.

The Brewers would be a perennial 65 win team if they ran their franchise with that philosophy. Chourio would not be here, neither would Miz. No Turang, no Henderson.

You also cannot compare it to the Micah Parsons trade. Completely different sports economies.

They are losing every game may pitches.   Romero has just decided to show up.   It changes if they do anything meaningful in playoffs.    But it’s a huge boner right now because you traded with a division rival.    The dynamics and optics change if we traded with the rangers or something.

Yikes - I turned the game on and off several times today.  I initially shut it off when it got to 4-0.  Harrison, what happened to him?!!!!    Checked score again after a while and noticed it was 6-6.  Turned it back on and promptly got to watch Senzatela (sp?) get lit up and turned it back off again.   And finally, a 3rd time I checked back to see it was 9-7 in the bottom of the 8th with 1 out and no one on. (MLB app).  Put the game back on and holy geez more gasoline poured on to a dumpster fire by Romero.   That was that.  Just seeing the final was 12-8.   So depressing and my apologies for continually bringing bad luck when the Crew was trying to get back into it.   At least the Cubs got beat good.

Rookie moves. Everyone knows that when you turn it off when they are playing bad and they come back to tie it up when you’re not watching that you need to keep the game off the rest of the way

Murphy: “(Hamilton) has made twice as many great plays as missed plays”

Of course,

He HAS made some really nice plays this year. But even if the quote was true, it doesn't excuse the level of struggle he had today. That's just a manager knowing before he sits down in the presser that he's going to be asked about Hamilton, and getting defensive about it before the questions even started to fly. Better to just say he had a bad day, or whatever.

I have a feeling that May was here to be more of an innings eater than anything else.  He should be doing better for sure.

The brewers had like 8 starting pitchers.   They had innings eaters

Yep. And other than Henderson, the only game in the last week that looked like it might be an 'innings-eater' start was May. And as fate would have it the baseball gods short-circuited that one with rain.

I think he has more to give than what we've seen.

It doesn't have to be all the time. I never said that, but years when you think you really have a chance are the years they should strike. I'd argue they actually didn't do enough at the deadline this year, nor did they last year, and then we wonder why they can never get over the hump. If they did more, would it be guaranteed? of course not, nothing is, but it's better than not doing anything and thinking the same thing will work "one of these years".

Hope is not and never has been a strategy. Unfortunately it's one the brewers have used more often than not.

As far as the Micah trade, the point is, yes you gave up two 1st round picks, but so what? How do we now what those players will ever become, and I'd say there's a very good/great chance they will never be anywhere as good as Micah is and will be. It's no different trhan trading "prospects" no one know what they will ever become. Anytime you can trade unproven talent for proven major league talent, you do that 100x out of 100 in years when it makes sense.

Different people can have different definitions, but how many 'innings-eaters' did they actually have? Misiorowski & (until lately) Harrison. Henderson is, but not until recently; he was IL'ed & then they were fairly protective of him. Drohan maybe to some limited extent. Woodruff was eyed that way but then got hurt.

Sproat seldom lasted long enough into a game to be viewed in that regard.

Wait, so Craigtember wasn't really a thing?

I don’t understand the logic here. We’re years away from knowing if Jesus Made will ever be anything at this level. That’s certainly doesn’t make him expendable.

Straw man.

I'm not saying Made is expendable. I'm saying you can't argue this was a bad trade because nothing has proven the talking heads wrong.

You don't like it. We get it. But shouting out your disagreement with the philosophy on repeat is just continually stating the same position. Nothing that happens in these next five weeks is really going to tell us much about whether it worked or not.

We need some protocols posted for this....Admins need to get on it.

Like hell it won't.  If May and Romero suck in the playoffs, it clearly will have not worked out regardless of whether or not Ragsdale or Frias turn into anything.

Or maybe they are good?

The Brewers are a really good team. The playoffs have proven to be a crapshoot usually. As always, I’m happy to watch playoff baseball almost every year.

So we’re not allowed to have a negative opinion of trades that we didn’t like at the time they happen and have yielded poor results since they happen, just because we’re years from knowing how the prospects we gave up will pan out?

No, sorry, I don’t agree with that at all,

Matt Arnold really needs to rethink his trade deadline strategy. Whatever he's doing isn't working. A lot of dud moves, particularly his moves for pitching.

He’s a very good GM who has not been very good at the deadline, and it’s okay to say it. I feel like some (not you) can’t fathom that Matt Arnold screwed up. It’s fine. No one expects him to be perfect. I’d like him to be the first to recognize it because that’s how you learn and improve.
