I wonder if one way to parse the power numbers is that the Brewers hit so few solo home runs (which I’ve read is where they really are league outliers) due to the OBP approach to at-bats when no one is on base, but change their approach a bit when there are ducks on the pond. In that sense, it is less that the players can’t hit home runs as it is that they prefer to be choosier with aggressive swings. To wit, Turang’s bomb came with two on, and Bauers with one. Not solo shots.

Perhaps the “can’t hit home runs = doomed in playoffs” narrative is a bit overblown then.

Good time for some quick tiebreaker math.

Currently, the Braves stand at 30-16 against the East. 

The Brewers are 28-15 vs. the Central.

Braves have 5 divisional games remaining after tonight. Brewers have 8.

Was looking like the Braves would be favored a week ago, but the sweep of the Cubs really helped. I'd say the Brewers are now slight favorites, given the scores at this moment.

Ideally, that tiebreaker won't matter, but what better time to think about it?
