Chourio has batted .300 in three of the last four months, with one prolonged slump in July.

I don't think this is true. He's been consistently good, just one bad month.

He is very streaky. In the last 6 weeks he's had a 2-20 and 4-29 streak

Are week long slumps a Chourio streaky thing or just a baseball thing and we notice it more because otherwise his production is so outstanding? I lean the latter.

Oof. I certainly thought that looked intentional. Looking at the ball and putting your foot to it...

But Phils have crushed it this inning, so, whatever. In some ways, losing this game isn't even bad, especially if the Reds hold on.

I just don't get this way of thinking, I think it is the way they are looking at it but it seems short sighted. I would much rather play a game 7 at home against the Dodgers.

As the resident Yelich apologist, I think he should start and get the majority of ABs at DH. He's got a ton of playoff experience. He's a year away from a 29-homer, 121 OPS+ season. The postseason is a small sample. Do people really believe he turned 34 and is no longer capable of that kind of production from this point forward? Maybe they do, but I'm not really sure there's a massively better option against righties. Vaughn's been better this year, but, I don't know.

Now, should Murph be willing to PH for him against lefties? You bet! I'll certainly agree that Vaughn or Sanchez should get a late-inning, high-leverage AB if the opponent tosses a top-tier lefty reliever at Yelich. Plus, I'd try to surround him with some RHBs so at least you have the chance to take advantage of 3-batter minimums.

You say this like he’s been clutch in the playoffs. He hasn’t been, even in his prime.

Also.., yeah. Guys can absolutely hit a wall at 34.

How much can you value postseason experience when he's been a below average hitter in the postseason. Not like he has a strong track record of hitting in the postseason and that was before he was looking totally washed like he has this year.

But when he gets hot he gets REALLY hot, though, too.  So he's at least a little bit streaky.

Bullpen rest is def important and it’s possible on Thursday they do a bullpen game as well

There's not going to be any easy opponents in the playoffs.

Don't really want to face the Phillies but the only team that we match up really well with is the Cubs but it would be just our luck with we would crap the bed and have to live with that.

Dodgers might even get knocked out in the first round. No guarantee that they make it

I don't dispute this but we're getting the bye regardless. I don't know, I hate settling for less.

Yelich is 34 and a year away from a genuinely great season. Over his career, he's been massively better than Vaughn. To argue that Vaughn should start, you really have to believe that Yelich is washed, that this is who he is now. Maybe that's right! I just don't agree. I'd rather go with the career numbers and be flexible based on game situation.

Really got to get a handle on all the strikeouts before the playoffs. Very tough for the Brewers to play there baseball if they're whiffing two out of every three plate appearances

Marsh's double was hard hit (100.1mph exit velocity). The other hits weren't so. Tracking the pitches on the MLB app, they weren't "bad pitches" that led to hits by Bohm and Stott. A couple 86 and 88 exit velocities, both with two strikes. Gordon was nearly out of the inning. Suppose you could have gone to Uribe, but no guarantee the result would've been different.

Hope the Padres can take at least one game against the Dodgers this week. Looks like that will be necessary to get the top spot in the NL. (Tampa's loss tonight helps for the overall top record.)

I know this is a minority viewpoint on the board, but I WANT the Cubs.

Their rotation is 27th in WAR and their bullpen is 28th.  Their offense is awesome, but like you said, there's nobody easy in the playoffs.

It would be nice to get HFA, but if the Reds hold on we clinch a bye.

I can’t say enough how much bigger the difference is between the 2 and 3, than the 2 and 1. I am not going to lose sleep if we drop to the 2. The 2 still gets a bye. The NLDS matchups are no real advantage to either. The difference between a 2 and 1 seed is the home field advantage of one hypothetical Game 7 in one NLCS series.

If we can get just get to that game, I’ll take my chances no matter where it is. Last time we had one of those it was in Milwaukee and it did not go our way.

Very true. No easy opponent during the playoffs.

Yeah they’re getting bye regardless. Keep the Phillies from seeing the Brewers top bullpen arms unless they have the lead

I don't think his age has anything to do with it. He swings like a guy who's had back surgery.

We're not that lucky.  If we get through the NLDS, the Evil Empire will be waiting for us.
