Part of the Miller struggles seem to have been exposed, he was brutally tipping his pitches. Appears both Yelich and Frelick were able to relay when a slider was coming…thus why we probably didn’t see anyone chasing one.

Yup - clear as day for a trained eye:

They had images for both when Frelick was batting and the hand positioning was identical.

This is said awkwardly - you're thinking neither Patrick nor Gasser goes in game 3, right?

May is a RHP, so I'd think Drohan or Harrison is the 2nd one in (possibly Hall or even Ashby, if we're "going for it"). Ideally, that gets us through 5 innings. Then I'd start going to the one inning right handers like Senzatela/Uribe rather than Patrick, who is our only right-handed long guy in the pen - it'd be smart to have him to back up the lefty Gasser in Game 4.

Not sure what is awkward... I said Gasser in game 4.  May is pitching game 3 with potentially Patrick or Drohan to follow.

Another overlooked moment is Sal gunning down Machado to end that inning.  Padres have plenty to consider about their play too.

I think Manny slowed down so Tatis would score knowing he was going to be called out at 3rd.

I've called him A Fraud for a long, long, long time.

I rember seeing him get a hit on every at bat during a game in Appleton at Goodland Field when the Foxes played there.  He moved up to AAA not long after that.

So am I looking at Sal scratching his neck a split second before the pitch? If that's true, that's an awful lot for Chourio to process in second or so.

That’s fair. At the same time, hitters only have 0.2 seconds to react to a 103 mph fastball.

A full second is an eternity by comparison

I don’t know, the Padres have a really talented hitting lineup with few if any weak spots They also have received a lot of media credit for their 41-18 tear after July 23rd which resuscitated their season plus their complete suffocation of the Cubs in the WC round.

What does gets over looked is the Brewers’ nearly identical 39-21 march after July 23rd.

The Brewers were just a little better with their weaker hitters in white knuckle time in Game 2 against a tiring Miller struggling with his command.

All season long we are winning games left and right but the national media and mlb.com kinda ignored it all and mentioned our games or scores as an afterthought while drooling over the Cubs and Dodgers.

Now we and especially Chourio are the toast of the town.

Sal’s signal is clear as day. As soon as the grip is on the ball he signals.

This is probably why you can't ask a closer or anyone with just two pitches to go multiple innings like that. The Brewers had 10 full minutes between batting in the 8th and the 9th for their video guys to dissect the whole thing and find it.

With all due respect to Christian, Sal, and Gary.... There is just no way all three of those guys lay off every single Mason Miller pitch out of the zone.

They have cameras all over, if there is footage of Frelick signaling where is the footage of Yelich signaling?

At 5:37 -- Yelich helmet tap while Sal is batting.

There are a few spots where I don't see a signal (10:45), but most of the time the camera angle isn't right.

Agreed, either one of the underlined if not both. I also agree that you might see Hall.

You might be right about Patrick being 'matched' with Gasser, but it wouldn't shock me if he's used tomorrow. If he is & there's any length involved, then Senzatela would have to be a potential bridge if there's a game on Wednesday.

The Yelich motion is the exact same one that Sal had. That's exactly what is happening.

So the biggest play of the game was Yelich stealing 2nd base because from then on we had a guy in position to relay signs.

That game was right at the top of memorable Brewer games. I can't stop reliving it.

Their stars picked each other up. Turang had a really poor game. Bauers and Contreras didn't do anything of note (I was as frustrated as he was with that 1-0 flyout in the 8th --- can't have a two-pitch AB in that circumstance), but Chourio, the bullpen, Yelich was huge. Guys really rallied.

But the things I keep coming back to were the Hamilton catch, the Pratt snag, the Frelick outfield assist. Yelich and Frelick on the basepaths in the 9th. It's the little things that win in these tight games, and it's the little things that get forgotten after the heroics. Particularly baserunning.

If Bauers is in right field, he isn't throwing out Machado at third, and he's not scoring that winning run.

Every guy out there was playing to their strengths, and doing it for their teammates. Just so gratifying.

Great stuff here. When Hamilton botched the in-between hop, I couldn't help but think that Ortiz (who I admit I would've started assuming he was healthy enough) would've made the play. But I can't imagine Ortiz ranging out towards the LF corner to grab the pop up that Hamilton caught. The amount of ground he covered was ridiculous. Also, did Hamiltons' speed have something to do with Cronenworth maybe rushing the process, fumbling the grounder & throwing offline? Quite possibly.

Great point about Bauers & RF on the throw to nail Machado.

Damn. And that's not a tough fix, either. No one on their staff noticed that (assuming he's been doing it all season)?

I'm keeping an open mind on the pitch-tipping. It really doesn't matter to me either way. It's part of the game, still have to execute, etc., so I don't really have a dog in the fight.

The Yelich signal seems much clearer and more intentional. Sal's seems...less so. He goes more to the neck than the head, and it's like the same motion I make when I'm swatting a gnat or something. Not to say I don't believe it. Just that I'm not nearly as confident as some seem to be.

Yep -- and the Padres had a mound visit after Sal walked so they had a chance to call out the pitch tipping. That's why the signal has to be as subtle as possible. One helmet tap from Yelich was not enough to trigger their spidey sense.

It’s an easy fix.

Probably would help if he didn’t wear a brown long sleeve. Damn near could have the bullpen relay signs it’s so obvious

but that’s baseball. I recall quite a few Hader blowups where he was tipping pitches. Also a risky strategy. Imagine relaying Chourio wrong information 1-2 and he watches a 104mph fastball down the plate cause you said a slider was coming.
