Wow I would be shocked if the Pirates traded Bay to MIL.

I feel so bad for Pirates fans. Why would you trade a guy coming off a down year who has been an offensive stud the past three? You're not going to get all the value you should.

I can tell you living in Pittsburgh - the majority of Pirates fans - don't seem to think Bay is all that great and would be happy if he was traded. They think he is an underperformer and "not clutch".

I wouldn't mind taking Bay off the unhappy Pirates fans hands. How about Mench, Wise and Brad Nelson for Jason Bay http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. I'm sure Melvin and Ash will welcome their fellow Canadian with open arms.

Actually, I think I would stay away from Bay. He was a late bloomer and coming off a poor year. Did he have a banged up shoulder or something?

 

Now if they are giving him away, yeah, I'd take a shot, but I doubt they would give up their best player for chicken feed.

WHat would be a fair offer for Jason Bay??? His contract is palatable. Would Gamel be a good centerpiece, given he was just named HWL MVP? Too much? Damaso or Torres would be good targets in the package, as well. Much like a trade with the Cards, however, the Pirates would be a bit leery of dealing within their own division, though A-Ram was dealt to the Cubs a few years ago. Nevertheless, he is still a former All-Star in his prime (Please, no Jenkins jokes).

Industry insiders dispute the notion that the Pirates are not shopping Bay. As one agent put it this week, "I'm hearing his name all over the place. That doesn't happen by accident."

 

The one party confirmed to have spoken to the Pirates about Bay is Cleveland, and that should be no surprise.

Bay is one year removed from being a great offensive outfielder. I'd much rather take a chance on him than hope for something serviceable from Gross/Dillon.

We only have so many players we can trade and our biggest glaring weakness is the bullpen. I would rather give up players to fix the pen than get an outfielder, who is really good, but not as big of a need.

Well, at least one of the players mentioned pretty much sums up that solution, and it isnt Dillon. This coming from someone who likes Gabe Gross.

 

If you can get a player like Bay, you do it. My only hesitation would be the pitching they ask for. It'd most likely start with Villanueva or Parra. Toss in Gwynn and Gamel and maybe you are onto something.

Parra, Gwynn and Gamel is quite a bit to give up, but it really doesn't take much away from the Major League team. I'd definitely consider that, and would probably pull the trigger.

Bay would be a great replacement for Jenkins. If the Pirates would seriously trade him for a package like Parra/Gwynn/Gamel, you do it.

 

That said, I'm pretty sure the article in question was just blind speculation, nothing more.

I read somewhere that the Pirates ARE shopping Bay, but that the asking price is just way way way out of this world. I think that Bay would be an outstanding fit on this team as the #4 hitter and with Prince in front of him would be a monster, but I cant imagine the Crew giving up what it will take to get him.

Thats scary good. Kendall hits 9th in order to provide Braun with more RBI Opportunities. Hardy has the baserunning skills to move to 2nd or 3rd on a sacrifice by the pitcher and the power needed to clear the bases on a jack. It might be a little out of the box, but this would be a lineup that would not be rivaled anywhere in the NL.
