Gord Ash on XM ... Latest: Hall/Sheets to LAD per Stone?

Gord Ash was on mlb radio from the winter meetings and hit on 3 main topics:

1. Scott Rolen Deal - Hang ups probably to much to overcome. 1st was what St. Louis asked for in return, 2nd was the money and 3rd was injury concerned.

2. When asked about replacing CoC0 - He first mentioned Turnbow in house but was very wish washy about it, mentioned Yost was "very good" at utilizing whomever and that it didn't have to be one guy. Gord ended that by saying,"It is not our main priority right now."

3. When asked about who will man the outfield - We'll see if Ryan Braun can go out there, we got Cory Hart and then we've got Gross and Gwynn. ZERO mention of Bill Hall. It sure didn't seem like an oversite.

He sounded like something is defintly in the works and that Bill Hall is not a part of the 08' Brewers.

Or they're planning on moving him back to 3B...

That is quite interesting, that he didn't mention Bill Hall as far as the outfield. Gord Ash isn't one to just forget about a player, so I have to believe something is up.

I would be quite happy if he gets moved back to 3B. If he gets traded, I hope it's for something big. Bill Hall is one of my favorite Brewers, but I wouldn't cry if he got traded for something that helps the team win in '08.

Ok, since everyone has a man-crush on Bill Hall, and there seems to be no other options for 3B, I'm fine with putting Hall back at 3B and sliding Braun into LF.

Maybe you guys can prove me wrong about Hall and how great he is...

I just don't want to make a desperate move and aquire band-aid nothing guys like Feliz, Iguchi or Crede.

I think Having Hall at 3B and Braun in LF is a better option than Crede/Feliz/Iguchi/some other bench scub at 3B and Braun in LF.

And just when I was starting to warm up to having Rolen...

Wow, I'm with Turbo on a post!! I agree that if Feliz/Iguchi are the cures at 3B I would rather stick Hall there and keep moving. I may be able to handle Crede if he is actually healthy but that is stretching it...

Addition: Could adding Crede to Milwaukee be stretched musically to Crede Sewagewater Revival?

I agree -- although with the Rolen deal falling through -- I suspect Crede will be in DM's crosshairs -- I'd brace yourself for a Crede trade.

I welcome our new Crede overlord!

Not really... I'm just trying to talk myself into it.

No thanks on Crede. He's got pretty awful OBP skills, and what was up with last year? I realize he was hurt, but he really just wasn't good at all. He's got decent power, but if he hits below .280, he'll struggle to have a .300 OBP. The offense really only has one area of need, and that's a better OBP, and Crede doesn't address that at all.

I think the main focus, if you are moving Braun off of 3rd would be the better defense. In order to get better defense they may have to sacrafice some OPB in order to get that, granted you would do that with Counsel.

Again, I realize Crede was hurt last year, but in almost 200 PA's, he put up a .575 OPS. That's Chad Moeller bad right there.

I'd be willing to give up *some* OBP for better defense, but in Crede's 4 full seasons, he's put up an OBP of .308, .299, .303, and .323. That's just not anything close to good.

All I want for Christmas is Joe Crede not wearing a Brewers uniform. Hopefully not mentioning Hall in the outfield means he's moving to third.

wow, I didn't know I was so hard to agree with... Yes, I am often on the negative tip, but I want to win damn it!

While I agree that I'd much rather have Hall at 3rd than Crede, I'm guessing Crede could be acquired for much less than Rolen's asking price. Josh Fields is the White Sox 3B, and Crede's a free agent after 08 - I think if the Sox lose out on signing a center fielder via free agency, Crede could be had for Gwynn, or a fringe bullpen arm (hello Vargas), since he'd most likely be a one year-rental, unless he proves to be healthy and they could work out an extension in-season.

I shudder when I look at his offensive stats, but I wonder how much of that was due to trying to swing a bat with a balky back - I'd be more concerned about his overall health than his offensive production, since I think one obviously leads to another.

I don't really like the sound of all of this, unless Hall just moves back to 3b. I can't see Melvin moving him this off season, especially when it would be a classic sell-low move and would open up another hole in the OF. So if Hall does go back to third, does that mean Hart plays center with a Grillon platoon in RF or do we go after a CF?

We could solve your 3b and LF problem rather easily. Trade Sheets to LA for LaRoche & Broxton. Problem solved. Of course that would create a SP problem but who needs pitching when you score 8 runs a game right?

It sure didn't seem like an oversite.

Why did it not "seem like an oversite" ? How could you tell? Did he specifically state that they only had 4 OFs right now with Hart, Braun (?), Gross, and Gwynn? I listen to MLB on XM most mornings on the way to work, but must have turned on it too late to catch Gord Ash. I'm suprised that Buck Martinez or Mark Patrick wouldn't have asked them more about this, or at least who they were looking at for 3rd if Braun was moving to the outfield.

If we're going to take that route, let's get really interesting and try a Sheets+Hall+something(Gamel, maybe) deal for Laroche, Broxton, and Kemp - move Hart to center, Braun to left, stick Kemp in right...it's just too good to be possible, right?

I'm not sure why the Dodgers seem to be sour on Kemp - he put up very good numbers for a rookie in an obvious hitter's park, and he has all the tools
