  1. This cracked me up. I really don't know what to say about this deal, but maybe Washington would actually be a viable landing spot for Fielder now? This seems like an absolutely horrible contract from Washington.
  2. I don't think that I'm alone in my feeling that Macha had it in for Villanueva almost from day one. Well he is a racist, after all
  3. There is no way the Mets would even be interested in Fielder (due to Davis), let alone be dumb enough to send Davis+ for Prince. But if there is... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. I think the entire issue with Farris as a shortstop would be arm strength. If he has a decent arm, he should be able to play solid D at SS. If not, he's limited to 2B & maybe 3B.
  5. I just caught a re-aired segment (from this past Tues.) of a MLB Network interview with Jamie Moyer. This guy has instantly skyrocketed up to being one of my favorite non-Brewers players. I never really cared one way or the other about the guy, but he couldn't have possibly been more well-spoken, intelligent, or grounded. Really, really impressive... and excellent interview overall. He had reconstructive UCL surgery this past week*, and is going to rehab & attempt a comeback. I'll be rooting for him, without question. * - This surgery was the FIRST Moyer's ever had on his pitching arm in his 24 year career
  6. I'll be very surprised if Berkman can stay healthy enough playing the OF to warrant $8M. I think his bat will be better than last season, but I also don't think he's going to play more than 120 games or so.
  7. I don't understand why Baltimore would want to make that kind of deal, but I welcome any & all suitors for a Prince Fielder trade with open arms.
  8. Would Provus realistically be a candidate for a 'color guy' position?
  9. Front page just loaded for me fine; using Firefox 3.6.12 on a Mac once again Not sure if reporting when it loads correctly is helpful or not.
  10. He's also got 37 steals, with only being caught 9 times. Paging Runnin' Ron Roenicke -- another basestealer! I'm more than happy to have guys running wild, as long as the success rates are worth it.
  11. I'm sorta glad to see Dunn over in the AL... Me too (unless he were to be on the Brewers). I was happy enough having him out of the division, and out of that bandbox in Cincy.
  12. When I heard the news on the radio this morning, I thought of tomwopat's avatar Me too... I literally said, "Oh no!" out loud before I even thought of the connection. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif R.I.P. Ron
  13. I could see him platooning with Gamel at 3B if we moved McGehee. Gamel has hit lefties really well in the minors, that's one of the things I like most about him. A LH bat that doesn't get just shut down by LHP. Emaus looks like an attractive option. I wonder why Toronto didn't feel like he was worth a 40-man spot if he's indeed a good defender.
  14. Mo Rivera is amazing. Maybe beyond amazing. I love him.
  15. yeah, we can't stop checking... even if it means little to nothing http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Great work, MH, just like during the regular season(s)
  16. If the White Sox are admittedly going "all-in" for 2011, I don't see why they'd want to deal one of their starting 5 this particular offseason. Floyd may not be an ace, but he'd easily be the most attractive FA SP after Cliff Lee this offseason. I think they'd do better to try & trade prospect(s) for a third baseman, and try to sign a non-tendered guy like Cust to replace Konerko. However, if my assumption is wrong, I'd definitely like to see McGehee flipped for Floyd.
  17. One idea to try as a potential Fielder replacement & stopgap would be Jack Cust, who was non-tendered by the A's. I admit I don't know if there's something health-wise that forces Cust to DH, but Daric Barton has the reputation of being a good defender at 1B, so it's not like there wasn't a performance reason for Cust to DH. Cust doesn't look like a true HR threat anymore, but he's played the past 4 seasons in a pitcher-friendly division. On top of that, his worst monthly OBP in '10 was .381; his worst OBP in the past 4 seasons was .356. Fwiw (probably not much), Bill James is projecting a .242/.377/.428/.805 line for him next season. The A's re-signed him to a 1 yr./$2.65M deal last January... I'd guess 1 yr./$5M or so would be enough to land him for '11. You'd need to find a RH swinging half of a platoon, but those guys shouldn't be too hard to find at 1B/the corner spots.
  18. Joe Pawlikowski puts the concerns about Pavano into some very convincing perspective at FanGraphs: Please tell me I'm being too pessimistic in thinking those last two lines might describe the Brewers to a T. If Doug Melvin *truly* has job security, like Mark Attanasio claimed late last season, signing Pavano for three years is a deal he avoids at all costs.
  19. From TH's latest blog post Melvin said he could have had Hinske with a two-year offer, which the Menasha, Wisc., native confirmed in an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Milwaukee made a big push,” said Hinske. “I think it kind of boiled down to they weren’t willing to give me a two-year deal. Neither was Atlanta but if neither was going to, my heart was in Atlanta.”
  20. I still love Adam Dunn. I think this is a really nice pickup for Chicago, but who knows how it'll look a couple or three years from now.
  21. Looks like this just moved on by on a slight SE path. Even looks like its northern tip will only graze Chicago.
  22. Apologies if this was posted elsewhere, but in TH's blog post yesterday discussing Brewers tender decisions, there was the following: The Brewers have gotten nowhere with Fielder’s agent, Scott Boras, with whom general manager Doug Melvin briefly met during meetings in Orlando last month. Melvin also met there with Weeks’ new agent, Greg Genske. “I asked him if they would be interested in discussing a multi-year deal,” said Melvin. “He said he was, so we said we’d consider it.” Nothing earth-shattering, of course. Just reassuring to me since I infer from this comment that the reason we haven't heard anything much more about the Weeks extension is that the Brewers are still figuring out how they want to go about it. I guess I'd just hoped they'd get a deal worked out early & go from there... and I really want to see Weeks retained. EDIT: And now I see McCalvy has an update at his blog: The Brewers would love to lock-up second baseman Rickie Weeks with a multi-year contract extension but are having trouble getting those talks started, general manager Doug Melvin said this week. "We're working on getting Rickie signed," Melvin told the sports radio station WSSP on Tuesday morning. "He's got a new agent, Greg Genske, who is CC Sabathia's agent, so it's going to be a lot tougher than his previous agent [Lon Babby]. "[Genske] doesn't respond as quick. But we'll be working on it."... "I've had one meeting with [Genske], and he said that he's interested in a long-term deal," Melvin said. "But once players get close to free agency, they get a little less interested in trying to sign up because they're so close to free agency and they've got some security under their belt." The comment about how Genske is also Sabathia's agent makes me feel less optimistic than I was a few minutes ago. Seems like Melvin's bracing fans for disappointment; maybe that's reading too much into things.
  23. Tulo now has the highest average annual value of all short stops. Given that he's the best SS in the game, that makes sense.
  24. For all we know, Boras told him to say that. It doesn't mean anything. What I meant was that Prince is doing what he wants, which is ultimately heading to FA. Villainizing Boras might make us feel better about Prince still being "our" player, but let's face it -- the guy is just as big a mercenary as anyone in MLB. I completely agree with Invader's take.
