  1. I mean, I guess it would be kinda like that. Except Lauer has owned the Dodgers over 7 starts and Woodruff has 1 AB vs Kershaw. I know you're being facetious, but Woodruff and Gamel aren't that different as hitters anyway. I get your point of view on Lauer, but there's little to lose here as it might be a bullpen game anyway. I'm not married to the idea at all, but I would definitely understand it if CC actually did it (which I don't think he will). But we have the series to lose. Yes the Dodgers are better. Yes the Brewers are more likely to do something silly and give the Dodgers the series. But just as the Brewers are a clunker away from facing Kershaw in an elimination game ... the Dodgers are also a clunker away from facing Brandon Woodruff in an elimination game. I'm not ok with 'YOLO!' being our team motto for the series until it has to be. Just my opinion. It's not YOLO though. He has been very good against them his whole career. I know he's sucked this year, but there is some theory behind the move. When I say "there's nothing to lose" I mean more in a sense of this particular game, not the series. If, and it's an if, this is going to be a bullpen game, I can definitely see Lauer over Suter. I think that's a defensible position. And I very much agree that the Dodgers are a clunker away from facing Woodruff in an elimination game, which is why I would take the risk of stealing game 1 with a guy who has pitched very well against them. I get your stance completely, but I think I might roll the dice.
  2. This is what I'd do. Start Lauer and have the bullpen on high alert, particularly Suter. I love the outside the box thinking and we are going to have to be creative for 27 innings to be able to beat the Dodgers AND this would be quite the cinderella/rabbit pull, etc if it were to work... however Lauer managed to be a -.6 WAR in only 4 appearances this year. Something isn't right or the Covid style of baseball just didn't work for him or something... he really, really struggled. The likelihood of it working isn't very good and so starting Lauer in Game 1 of the playoffs against the best team in baseball with 95% of your pitchers available to you is a borderline fireable offense in my very humble opinion. I will eat a months worth of crow if Lauer starts Gm1 and pitches well and I would be happy to do it. This would be a bit like giving Woodruff a PH opportunity against Kershaw over Gamel in Gm2 because of past success... I mean, I guess it would be kinda like that. Except Lauer has owned the Dodgers over 7 starts and Woodruff has 1 AB vs Kershaw. I know you're being facetious, but Woodruff and Gamel aren't that different as hitters anyway. 3. He was actually better than Williams in their age-21 seasons, which is incredible. Now all he has to do is hit .406 with a .553 OBP and 235 OPS+ next season to keep up. I highly recommend Ted Williams' BBref page. Just amazing. But yeah, unbelievable season from Soto and the sky is the limit.
  4. Was at Nolan Ryan's 300th win and Robin's 3000th hit. As well as Easter 1987. Game 5 of the 1982 World Series. Went to a ton of games from 1987 (finally had my license) to 1993. It was a dump, but I loved it. Had my first unsupervised beer opening day 1989. Good memories, and mostly decent-to-good teams for the games I was at starting in 1978 through 1993. Didn't go to many games from 1994-1999.
  5. This is what I'd do. Start Lauer and have the bullpen on high alert, particularly Suter.
  6. Agree on that. There were definitely a couple head scratchers last offseason. I personally didn't hate the Smoak signing as much as Healy, Sogard and Gyorko. Gyorko has been quite good, but the other 2......yikes.
  7. Yeah, I don't really agree here. He bought Yelich pretty low as well as lots of others. Including Aguilar.
  8. I was mostly being facetious, but I absolutely believe that Stearns thought they could do better. And I believe that was why they dealt Aguilar for whatever they could get. As I said, he was wrong so far purely on the numbers, but the scenario hasn't completely played out yet.
  9. I think the part you're missing is that Stearns likely thought the Brewers could do a lot better than Aguilar for his cost. He was wrong (kinda). I mean Gyorko is far better than Aguilar, so it the Brewers don't deal Aguilar, they don't have Gyorko, and are therefore worse. So Stearns wins another trade.
  10. It's going to add like three days to the season. Pretty irrelevant in my opinion. It takes a three game series instead of a one game playoff to get down to 8 teams. I don't like the format though, as others have said it cheapens the regular season, which stinks. Also, the extra innings rule suuuucks. DH, meh, don't care one way or the other.
  11. Boy, when you come up with an addled opinion, you stick to it, I'll give you that.
  12. I'll be shocked if the Reds win 85 games. Brewers 89 Cardinals 87 Cubs 85 Reds 79 Pirates 64
  13. Pending contract could prove to be an excellent signing. NL type player with the versatility.
  14. Roenicke. Lol. Good luck with that.
  15. Rolen is a top 10 3b of all time. I don't even think it's close whether he's HOF or not. He'll get in eventually though.
  16. None of which he would hold if the playoffs were the same in the 50s as they are now. He still does hold them though and they are impressive. Jeter is pretty overrated, but he's clearly a HOFer. The guy (or gal, do we know who it is?) that didn't vote for him is a tool. Not related, but Rolen not getting in is a joke.
  17. I've said this before, but he's not going to sign anywhere that wants him to play 3b. He wants to be an outfielder.
  18. Phil Gosselin. And yeah, it doesn't happen much at all.
  19. Looks like a .781 OPS would be average to slightly above average. MLB 3B 2017-19: Thanks, I was unable to locate that info.

  21. If you take Gyorko's vs LHP 3 year average and Sogard's vs RHP 3 year average and weight it for 61% RHP, you would get a line of .356/.425, which I have to imagine is very close to league average. Imperfect of course, but not as horrible as one might expect after reading this thread.
  22. Lord. Data is good.
  23. Except he wants to play outfield.
  24. I'd be good with McNeil/Diaz/top 5 Mets pitching prospect for Hader. Obviously counting on a Doaz bounceback, but I think it makes us better potentially. McNeil is a really nice player in my opinion. I'm not interested in any deal centered on Andujar.
  25. Like it, pending dollars. As mentioned was very unlucky last year.
