  1. Karma sucks man, deal with it http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm just glad I didn't get RickRoll'd on top of this. Already got me twice today. ESPN's Streak for the Cash was the first one (for future reference, there is no such thing as ESPN8). The teams playing were the Rick Diggers and the Gold Rolls, and I still fell for it. Man I'm stupid.
  2. I would want Jenkins over TGJ any day of the week.
  3. I don't balance my checkbook, but I also work for the credit union where my account is so I have access to it at all times. I really don't have a problem with people keeping a checkbook register and using it. In fact, I applaud people that do that; it makes my job much easier when those people say something got screwed up. If it's all documented, we can find it quickly. But once again, there is a right way to use a checkbook register, and that right way is not balancing it while you're holding up the checkout line. Take the stuff that you bought and your receipt and go figure it out on a bench or when you get back in the car.
  4. Just seems more prudent, thorough, and responsible to hand the cashier the necessary two dimes when your total is $4.17.... If you have those two dimes readily available, I have no problem with that. The problem is when you spend five minutes digging through the bottom of your purse looking for the two pennies.
  5. It is simply someone doing something differently than someone else. And because of that, "someone" is making "someone else" wait longer than they need to when there are perfectly feasible alternatives to the way they do things. -Use a checkcard or credit card -Write out part of the check in advance, just don't sign it -Keep your loose change in a coin jar and cash it in at your bank or credit union rather than be tempted to pay exact change -Take the coupon that the cashier won't accept up to the customer service desk and argue your case there
  6. Until it becomes outlawed it is simply that one desires to do it in a different way than someone else. So nothing is rude unless it's illegal? I don't recall anyone saying these people should be thrown in jail, at least not seriously.
  7. I don't really think that's rude. If i'm at the end of the line, I'll look at the others ahead of me briefly and give them a chance to respond, but if they don't respond quickly, I'm going. Wait too long and someone that just walked up will jump in that line. Also, for those of you writing checks and not using a checkcard, please know that checks are much, much less secure. At most banks and credit unions, you're only liable for up to $50 of unauthorized purchases on your checkcard if it gets lost or stolen. If you lose your checks and don't stop them before someone else uses them, you're basically screwed. Also, you can get a checkcard register that is a lot like a checkbook register but smaller and it can hold your checkcard.
  8. I swear they have one of each thing. This wootoff is going fast.
  9. I am in an apartment so a dish it not an option for me. Is there a specific reason for this? I was under the impression that apartment landlords can't legally prevent you from having a dish; at least that's what the sheet said when I had mine installed. I switched to DISH Network when my promotional deal with TWC expired. The only problem would be if you don't have a clear view of the southwestern sky.
  10. This always seems like one of those things that works for a while, and then is quietly abandoned due to whatever circumstances about halfway through the season. I agree, and I don't think it will even make it halfway. I give it until May. Someone is gonna miss a start or Rivera is gonna open up the season mashing or Bush will get rocked two starts in a row, etc. Something will come up and this will be forgotten.
  11. He strikes me as someone who badly wants to be loved by baseball fans, but has the PR sense of Mike Tyson. That says it perfectly. I can't understand why some athletes just keep falling down the hill. Just stay out of the public eye for awhile and people start to forget things. Making out with yourself is the exact opposite of staying out of the public eye.
  12. If I had more faith in the decision-making abilities of all teachers, I would say toss out letter grades and percentages altogether. In high school students beg the teacher to give them certain grades so they can get into a certain college. The teacher gives them the grade, hands them off to the college, and never sees or thinks about them again. Then in college, the process repeats. I was absolutely amazed at the lack of intelligence in my first college course. We had to pass around our papers and have others read them. Every paper came to me with crappy spelling, run-on sentences (and paragraphs), and absolutely no development as a paper. It makes me feel like my degrees aren't worth much. There's so much urgency in the world as a whole that we don't have time to teach life lessons. Someone needs a certain grade to get into the College of Education, so they beg the prof for that grade even though it's not deserved. They HAVE to get in NOW. Well, what about next year? Audit the class, work harder, and try again later. Life isn't over if you don't get exactly what you want when you want it. Medical research allows life expectancies to get longer while we try to squeeze more and more into them. Students just need to relax a little and realize that the world isn't ending tomorrow. We make mistakes and we pay for them, but that doesn't mean that we should wallow in them. Sometimes I don't change things when I should have, but that's not an excuse to not change it now.
  13. The reality is HR is a tool Which side are you on again? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'll second Invader's post...HR usually has a lot of other jobs and they're usually understaffed in their own departments. I've never worked there myself, but in many of them they also do payroll and some training and answer our phone calls because when we can't figure something out, we call HR. Ideally, they are focusing more on keeping employees that they already have than finding new ones.
  14. Take it back! There are way too many new players around since Ann left, and that's way too many names to butcher. Anyway, bad sideline/dugout reporting is the absolute best use of the DVR. Pause the game, go do something else for an hour, come back and skip through everything that's not baseball.
  15. I love incentive-laden contracts in every sport, assuming the manager doesn't go out of his way to make sure the player reaches their bonuses.
  16. You mean make them read? Psshh.
  17. Anyone ever have that annoying bug where after a play a player would throw the ball to SS and the ball would go into the OF? Had that one. I also used to get annoyed when I would hit a home run and the guy who hit it would just stand at home plate...he wouldn't run the bases and the game, while still running, was essentially frozen.
  18. This right here makes me think I'll probably pick up a copy. Some of the contract stuff was just so unrealistic for so long.
  19. Is this because of something he said, or just based on the idea that big markets are automatically better?
  20. I just heard this, too. I guess it depends on how ready Escobar is. This also would make Sheets and Sabathia easier to let go. This sort of thing couldn't happen until the season is over though, right?
  21. I don't even know what to say. The Packers won again, and Yost is gone. I feel oddly complete. Just wish they hadn't waited so long and had someone more competent than Sveum to take over. Oh well.
  22. That's actually really interesting Rydogg. I didn't realize they did it that way. We always base it on what item comes out first. It may end up happening that the largest one goes first even though you "transacted" that one last, but that would be by pure chance. If all of it is done by debit, it goes in order of when the transaction is processed. Sounds like a sneaky way to get an extra buck.
  23. Ned Yost could be in the 9th inning of Game 7 of the World Series, and he would look at his two out hitter with the bases loaded down by 2 runs and say "just be patient, you'll come out of this slump at some point". But I actually agree with the general sentiment here. Because of the way that he's been all season, if he panicked now it would be out of place and his players might follow suit.
  24. At many landfills they have contraptions that store the methane gas that comes out of them. Not sure if that's what you're talking about.
