    This is not hitting at a very good time, either. The city of Milwaukee is going to have a sales tax increase of 2% at the beginning of 2024. Milwaukee County is going to have a .4% increase at the same time. That means the sales tax in Milwaukee will be 7.9%. Yes... I know that the tax rate for Wisconsin as a whole is one of the lowest in the country (Taxfoundation.org), but it is a 40%-ish increase. For me, I do not mind paying a tax for the stadium, but it is only for the stadium. Why can't there be something one in that area to be more beneficial? I understand the huge amount of asphalt for tailgating, but how many people really tailgate? Maybe 1%? Take the land east of the river and make it more useful. Combine that and make it a stadium "district" instead of simply the stadium.

    Great question. Here is a comment that was made: This, and in other comments, it was pointed out that Adames is performing poorly. @sveumrules also outlined: With that context, you mentioned that recent developments with Yelich , along with Hiura, have given you hope this year. Last year, and the year prior, people were making similar comments about Yelich and rightfully so. If the Brewers would have cast Yelich aside, like is being suggested with Adames, how would that have turned out? Please keep in mind that a scant 10 or so pages ago, I agreed with you -- Hiura should get a chance. Will his AAA numbers necessarily carry over to the MLB? Probably not, but at least give him the chance. Why hasn't he been given a chance? I'm not sure, but I am confident the lack of options is involved. Maybe he isn't a good clubhouse guy. Maybe he called Counsell a bad name? Maybe they were frustrated when Hiura closed out July 5 for 26? We don't know.

    I recall a large segment of people calling for Yelich to be benched / replaced last year.

    This is professional sports. When college athletics wasn't so big, the student / athlete could be a student. Now, with all of the travel, they are expected to have the same schedule as professional athletes... plus adding a college-level workload. For transparency -- I was an advocate for not paying the players. They were getting a free education, training table, tutors, better housing, and more. Now, the university is expecting more from them preventing them from being an actual student. I am concerned for the athletes in the "non-revenue" sports. I had classes with a wrestler back in the day who was a National Champion. He was an engineering major and was able to get his assignments done on time, but shared it was very very tough. That was in the early 90's. My brother got a scholarship to wrestle at a Big 10 school, and was surprised at how they encouraged him to not take tough courses so he could focus on wrestling. He left and ended up getting a degree and a masters degree. The universities can complain about how much attention is paid to sports, but they are reaping the benefits with extra money for academic endeavors. Sponsored by Elon Musk 😉

    One thing that is not really considered is how other sports are going to be affected. Now, you are going to have tutors going with the players or be readily available for the "students." Jay Bilas appeared on the Rich Eisen show and I think he has an excellent take.

    Square up the ball and good things will happen. What a crazy lineup it will be with Turang, Frelick, and Mitchell. Three exciting rookies that aren't from the traditional Brewers masher mold. Hopefully Mitchell will be able to heal completely from his injury.

    Love the article. I was trying to find some video of Turang's swing when he was struggling. There are a few things that are biproducts of a high leg kick: timing and a "not-quiet" head. It takes an exceptional athlete to be able to have a high leg kick and still keep his hands back for the off speed pitches. The movement on the balls from the pitchers is crazy and the goal has to be to get the bat on the ball. In the videos above, I noticed that Turang was keeping his hands in a relatively good plane when he gets to toe touch. Although he starts his hands higher, he gets them to the same place without too much hand movement. I have a feeling he was lowering his hands a lot and that is why the coaches had him keep his hands higher. That would also hurt with the high 4-seam fastball (as you mentioned). He doesn't take his hands behind his body on his load which allows for a quicker path to the ball. He also isn't wrapping the bat around his head on his load. Making more efficient movements with less unnecessary movement. Square up the ball consistently instead of trying to get a 120 exit velo each time. So the big question is: are these changes being made at the minor league levels and then being hosed up at the major league level?

    Perhaps Counsell realizes that he needs to get better bats in the lineup. Frelick has been hitting better lately. Canha was hitting better than a lot of the Brewers were -- including Wiemer.

    Wow... I wonder if they try to add one more out west, at least, so those teams out west can have their own division. I saw Arizona was going to join the Big 12. I wonder who is going to dominate Baseball and Softball?

    The reason why they don't practice the bunt is because the analytics don't suggest you should. It is not being taught at the youth level. I have spoken to college players and minor league players. Very few colleges work on it and if they do, it is only for the Brice Turang / Garett Mitchell types. This is confirmed with minor leaguers I have talked to. I know that Hitters will touch on it. The academy I helped at taught it. Perhaps this t-shirt has been the mantra:

    I will be stoked when charging a vehicle can be done in minutes instead of 10's of minutes. Of course, as I get older, it takes me longer to "take care of business" at a rest area. So, maybe it won't be a big deal for me. 😉

    Why do some players go to the minors after and injury while some do not? Would Tellez benefit from a week at AAA? It would give him a chance to get some live ABs not at the MLB level so he can get back into a rhythm offensively. It would be a rehab assignment instead of an option, wouldn't it?

    One thing I enjoy is knowing that somebody is going to come onto this thread and post something. If one person is going to post every time Hiura has a good game, I don't find it offensive when somebody says he seems out of whack for a game. I didn't read anywhere where Jake said the bad day was a justification for Hiura not coming up.

    Another positive -- Over the past month, Montestario is at .354/.415/.448. His wRC+ is 140. K% is 20.0. He should be getting playing time over Urias and Anderson in the infield. He must not be sent down and if he is blocking Urias, so be it.

    If you don't mind walking a little bit, there is a shuttle from Watertown Plank road that has a free shuttle bus. It drops you off by the US Bank building. It is part of a promotion for an electric bus line. We used it for Summerfest. I'm guessing there will be more parking downtown now, though.

    How would the Ohtani deal be compared to the CC Sabathia trade? I believe Ohtani would provide more value because of his bat. The Sabathia trade was a point where the Brewers really proved they wanted to go for it. The Indians made out on it with Brantley. One of the pieces that would be traded for Ohtani would probably become the next Brantley.

    This begs the question: what would be a sufficient sample size? I agree that he has to be a better option than Winker and should get the opportunity. Let's say, he gets called up today and plays the remainder of the games as a DH. If he doesn't rake, will the next step be, "he needs to get a full season under his belt?" If we are calling for Hiura to get these chances, then we can't call out Turang or other young players who, at least, are an asset defensively.
