  1. If Bucky wins this weekend, maybe there will be some reflips with the recruits? I really like how the program has turned around. There is passion that I did not see at the beginning of the year. Maybe Fickell didn't forget how to coach, but he might not have known what it means to be a Badger. Let's get it done against the rodents!
  2. Was at the game on Friday night and seeing Giannis get hacked vs. Ball's flopping was crazy. Pat Murphy in the front row stoic as ever, though... 😉
  3. Point of order (and hopefully not treading on a political line)... Taxes were recently raised in the City and County of Milwaukee to avoid a fiscal cliff mostly attributed to pensions. https://reason.org/commentary/public-pension-costs-continue-to-drive-up-milwaukee-taxes https://wisconsinexaminer.com/2023/07/27/milwaukee-county-approves-0-4-sales-tax-increase-to-avert-fiscal-cliff/
  4. Some other fun ones: Eggs vs. Aggs Wisconsin vs. Wesconsin Then there are the Canadians -- what's that all aboot?
  5. I looked at uscho and it wasn't there. I guess uscho isn't the place to go... 😉 https://www.uscho.com/rankings/pairwise-rankings/d-i-men
  6. The Badger defense is what carried this game, obviously. The thing I saw today that I have not seen all season is (to use Posa's term) "grit." The defense was on fire and Smith was fine. If they can play like that with passion and heart, I will be much more encouraged. Funny how so much of the emotion and drive was coming from freshman.
  7. I thought the pitch clock was supposed to prevent long games like this!
  8. Would Jordan Montgomery be willing to accept a "prove-it" deal? That would be a veteran presence, but the Crew wouldn't know what they would be getting for sure.
  9. A must "listen to". Kyle, Brust, and Nortman... Highlights: No heart Players show no fight Fickell does not show up at events (sounds similar to Chryst) Has zero relationship with Wisconsin high school coaches. No fundraising at all. They both need to be gone, now... or, at least, Fickell.
  10. They have to replace Kershaw with someone...
  11. When I was in the Band, the Badger football team only one 7 games in the four years I was there. That included the first year of the Emperor. I was so focused on the Band (with a little help from some 12 oz. cups of our favorite beverage) and the hockey team, that it really didn't hit me too much. Since then, Wisconsin had (notice the past tense) become prominent. Let's analyze McIntosh's points: That means more Athletics-funded investments into... infrastructure -- ok, you broke ground, got rid of the shell, moved the hall of fame plaques, the bricks people purchased with donations, and the indoor track facility... check! staffing -- having 42 administrative staff and over 400 positions in the entire department -- check most importantly, student-athlete recruiting and retention -- not working for your biggest revenue generator (football). My guess is he is saying, "See? Barry was 1-10 in his first year. We had to tear the program down before we built it back up." Empty stands aren't going to attract anyone unless Fickell is out in two years and then they bring in someone else. Not much else to say... I'm just ranting. ... Sad Trombone...
  12. I see too much “give up” with this team. This started at the end of the Alabama game. Ok… Simmons drove the team down the field against Maryland, but Fickell stayed stoic. That should have been a time where he got excited to celebrate a small victory — even if it was small. That attitude and fight comes from the Head Coach. I haven’t seen it this year.
  13. Napier out as Florida head coach. $19M buyout
  14. I agree -- the hitting was abysmal. I think the hitting approach was much to blame... To the original question: My argument is more around these guys not being as sharp. If Priester pitches against the Dodgers like he did during the season, it is a lot different. The pitching was fine because of Murphy rolling out a lot of guys on short rest (and Ashby having an arm that is now three inches longer 😉) But to point at what the main reason was behind the Brewers losing the NLCS -- it was the hitting, for sure.
  15. I might even suggest August 15 - September 1. During that time, I am not sure the arms were given a full opportunity to recover. That not only led to injuries, but let to fatigue later on in the year. Someone made an interesting point on the NLCS broadcast -- the timeline for Snell is like he is pitching in June. Ohtani the same. The Brewers had a lot of innings on their arms and, I would suggest, extra stress because of the 21 games in 20 days. I would also suggest that we, as fans, expect players that are dominant in AAA to automatically be dominant in the show. The Brewers lack of depth during the season contributed to the poor performance in the playoffs.
  16. I think you are spot on. However, Contreras had some phases where he would be trying to pull the ball during the course of the year. The easy way to tell is if the opposing pitchers would be throwing a lot of offspeed pitches -- especially sliders off the outside corner or curveballs below the zone. There were stretches where Contreras would be pulling off and looking silly. This happened last year, too. I know it is easy to say, but the Crew needs to have a gap-to-gap approach. When they do that, success follows. I appreciated when Yelich, Frelick, and Turang would hit the occasional rope to the left side. I thought I saw that approach with Turang a little more in game 4, but it was too little, too late. Why fake a bunt down the third base line if you are only going to try to pull it to the right side all of the time? I attribute the lack of having a gap-to-gap approach with Snell's success in game 1 more than Snell's ability. Snell knew that the Brewers were going to be aggressive and try to pull the ball. The Brewers made no adjustment at all. Snell is a very good pitcher, but he didn't need help from the Brewer batters.
  17. It seems to me that the strategy is akin to how a College World Series would be managed. Ashby should not have had to have pitched every game. Of course, we may not know how injured certain people are.
  18. I, too, was at Game 1 and it was plenty loud. During most of the game, you would hear groups around the stadium start the "Let's go Brewers" chant. I watched part of the replay on TV and the TV didn't do it justice. There is somebody with their fingers on the dial (or the slider) to alter what is getting to the consumer. I am somebody who stands up and yells when there is two strikes and it miffs me off during the regular season when a game is close and the crowd doesn't get up and yell. That was not an issue during game 1.
  19. Point of order Brian Anderson: we were standing for the first inning last night. Lots of people sitting tonight… I’m still hoarse
  20. Hmmm... I like that idea too. However, I would like to see Kotelnicki be able to bring in some top-quality coaches who can take the players to the next level. Would Dave Aranda consider coming back, or would that be a lateral move? He has had a roller coaster road at Baylor.
  21. Mears out, Myers in.
  22. If Joey or Blake hit the ball, it will be a can of corn 😉
  23. $50M buyout for Franklin
