  1. This. Lohse with the Cardinals: 809 IP 3.90 ERA 1.279 WHIP 9.3 H/9 2.2 BB/9 5.6 K/9 101 ERA+ Lohse the rest of his career: 1162 IP 4.82 ERA 1.432 WHIP 10.1 H/9 2.8 BB/9 5.7K/9 95 ERA+ Almost a run less of ERA, a .153 drop in WHIP, and almost 1 less hit per inning with the Cardinals while K and BB rates stay about the same. Lohse is a product of playing in St. Louis. He is a disaster waiting to happen. You don't just go to St. Louis and learn how to go sub 3.00 with your ERA. Every struggling pitcher would be there otherwise. Did La Russa/Dave Duncan do incredible things? Yes. Did Lohse go 16-3 last year without either of them? Yes.
  2. I mean.. I get it. I do. But you would think the talk here would be a little more positive after the Brewers signed a guy who was 16-3 last year with a 2.83 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and an OBA sub .240? Again, I get it. But this makes our rotation better and this will likely save some innings for/improve our bullpen. Leary about year 3? Yep. Hate losing the draft pick? Yep. But for a team that made a nice run WITH THIS ROSTER the last half of last year and the pitching staff was the reason for us not making the playoffs ... I'm ok with it. There is no arguing this doesn't make our rotation better for this campaign. But again, I get it.
  3. Agreed. I like Davis and think he could be a great bench bat this year, but isn't that just limiting what he could be? If he could be packaged for a Porcello or Bud Norris type, I might be more inclined to go that route because I don't think Gomez and/or Aoki is going to fail in CF or RF. I'm in this camp as well. I think Davis should be an everyday guy in AAA and let him put up some gaudy numbers so he can be packaged at the trade deadline for a piece. He is blocked everywhere on the big league level by guys we control for awhile (RB, CG, NA) or by a better prospect (Morris). If the league is going after Braun than I think he has a place as a replacement this year... but otherwise his best value to the Brewers is probably going to be as a July trade piece.
  4. Excellent. Tom G can still be used as our long man out of the pen and we still have our lefty for the late innings if that is the situation.
  5. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/182218911.html People in the know ... thoughts?
  6. forget about zimm here Ax. You have a few pitches to play with ... work on the hitter.
  7. Darwin Barney! Wrigley magic baby.... come on let's pull this out!
  8. Veteran catcher w/ playoff experience to chat up the young pitchers in the dugout during these stressful last few weeks? Doug Melvin owed Texas one last favor? Mark A was bored? I'm trying to find the angle here... Welcome to MKE Yorvit!
  9. First thing I thought of is that this puts Posey right in the thick of the batting title convo and if he wins that I would say he puts himself in great position for an MVP, as much as I'm pulling for Brauny.
  10. I haven't changed my avatar since the playoffs last year ... but today it is needed. Let's do this Dale!
  11. Without having any idea or context ... I assumed it was referring to our series with the Angels and the inevitable small ball war that will occur...
  12. First things first. We need to take 3 of 4 from Miami and need the Mets and Padres to take 2 of 3 from Stl and LAD to get us to within 5 by Friday. Tonight: Estrada vs. Josh Johnson STL-NYM: Wainwright vs. Collin McHugh (2nd major league start) LAD-SD: Harang vs. Andrew Werner
  13. Ugh. You all beat me by a few minutes.. I was typing up a post (and posted it.. whoops) about this same thing while you made this. But yes, a 10-5 run against inferior competition *knock on wood* in the next 15 puts us at .500 and right back in it.
  14. Couple of things. I realize this probably could be discussed elsewhere and didn't need it's own thread.... but positive karma is needed after reading all about the hate messages she has been getting, which is ridiculous. I wanted to offer a weird "thank you" to Mrs. Lucroy. In doesn't need to be stated that losing J-Luc does NOT make our club better ... but I think all of us collectively laughed when we heard of another injury to the roster (and to one of our elites) and the nature behind it, and part of me thinks the team had an "Ef this" moment when they realized the universe doesn't want them to win this year and they all went into Hulk mode. The Crew just went on the road to play a 4 game series against the best team in baseball (Texas pending...) and came out unscathed. Our next 15 games are against the Pirates, Cubs, Padres, Royals, and Twins. The first 9 of which are at home. For the first time this year the club will be playing with justified confidence ... so I would offer that 10-5 is a realistic goal (expectation?) ... which remarkably would put us back at .500 on the year and right back in the thick of things. So thank you Sarah Lucroy. You may have just saved our season.
  15. I've always been good with the bottom of the lineup manufacturing runs. If Roenicke wants to safety squeeze Maldonado with Kershaw on the mound and we can steal a run ... cool. But I agree that taking the bat out of Braun's hands is rarely (see: never) wise ... I don't like that as much.
  16. So .. not that I don't like Shea Vucenich (sp?) .. but that front page story has been up for about two years now. I was thinking maybe you could ask a place like Disciples of Uecker if every other week or so you could re-post one of their articles that would be relevant for a little while just to get a variety on that front page? I don't know .. just a thought.
  17. Hopefully the curse will be lifted when we draft Fielder's son in 13 years.
  18. I'm not sure that kind of rage is natural. I'm not saying anything ... but you know where I am going...
  19. Yeah, unfortunately yesterday was not the day to bring up this topic. I get what you are saying ... but Mr. Braun creates fireworks. . . . and I like fireworks.
  20. You know, it's probably a good thing that you can sit your two best offensive players and still look over your lineup and say .. "that actually could/should work" ... but with that said.. No Braun, Hart, AND Lucroy in the same game? Can't we space the days off and limit the "hurt"? I want Hart in the game but I am excited to see Aoki get a full game of at bats. Lot of small ball today.
  21. Just an update on 'Frisco ... the Giants are going to release Mike Fontenot. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/03/giants-to-release-mike-fontenot.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter His contract in SF was $1 million. Giants have to pay $250,000. He could be had for cheap. Plays 2B, SS, and 3B. Just throwing it out there...
